About Me

I am a graduate of SUNY Geneseo where I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree. I majored in both Special Education and Elementary Education in order to better equip myself to help a broader range of students. I also graduated from Long Island University where I obtained my Master of Science Degree in Special Education. For the last 34 years I have had the pleasure of teaching students in the Brentwood Union Free School District where I worked with children in grades 1-5 in a Resource Room( small group) setting. I taught reading, writing, common core math, organizational and study strategies, using techniques which were both enjoyable and effective. I have always found that success oriented tasks, encouragement and a positive approach to learning, utilizing multi-sensory and strategy based instruction, are most effective. Every student can learn if given the right tools. Helping struggling learners become successful learners has been the greatest joy of my life. In addition to my teaching duties, I also assessed struggling students as part of the referral process for the committee of special education. When I retired from my school district this past June, I quickly realized how much I missed working with students. I am now looking forward to working with students through varsity! This would allow me to share my expertise, strategies, enthusiasm, and love for learning. At home I enjoy spending time with my son, doing arts and crafts, reading, and playing with my cat Kaylee.
