About Me

I am a Ph.D. student in Cognitive Science and Philosophy at the University of Arizona, but I discovered my love for teaching as a high school substitute teacher after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Highest Honors and Distinction).Since then, I have designed and taught many advanced undergraduate courses at the University of Arizona from the ground up, but my teaching abilities are strong in a one-on-one setting. Primarily that's because I really like people. A lot. I see things from the student's point of view, and that helps me to tutor in a way that is individualized for each student. As a high school and middle school substitute teacher and as an instructor at the North Carolina Governor's School I found that I enjoy teaching students at all levels, from middle school through advanced undergraduate. I tutor many subjects, most especially essay writing and editing, grammar and mechanics, reading comprehension and critical thinking, public speaking, Spanish language, study skills and organization, and U.S. history and politics. The courses I have designed and taught at the University of Arizona have been cross-listed in economics, mathematics, psychology, political science, law, and family studies and human development. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy learning old time and bluegrass fiddle tunes by ear and playing them on the street incognito, juggling (torches and knives, large numbers of objects), and composing electronic music.
