I recently retired from 39 years of teaching nearly all subjects and levels of High School Math and Science (primarily Physics), along with some Theatre! During my time in the high school classroom, I taught Biology through AP, Chemistry, and Physics through AP 1 and AP C. I have also taught most subjects in high school Math, including Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB. My favorite subjects to teach and tutor are Physics at any level and Algebra 2 or Precalculus.I have a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, CT (my home state, though I have lived in Jacksonville, FL, for the past nearly 40 years). I have also taught as an adjunct professor at most of my local area's colleges and universities.My teaching and tutoring style center on student-based learning, allowing students to solve their own problems with "leading questions" and not providing a simple step-by-step solution. I am proud to say that, over the past 30-plus years, I have had many of my students go on to post-secondary education in Math, Physics, and Engineering.In my spare time, I enjoy theatre (directing and acting), singing, musical theatre, film, writing, reading, and travel. I have also taught Theatre and Musical Theatre, as well!

I am a Junior at the University of Maryland-College Park double majoring in Psychology and Sociology. After completing my undergrad, I hope to attain a doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Child and Adolescent Psychology. I am very passionate about personal growth and mental health and believe that education is absolutely necessary for a quality life. I hope to preach the importance of academic growth and my appreciation for it to all of my future students! My favorite subjects to teach are elementary-level math and reading as well as writing and art. During my time as a tutor on campus, I helped students in subjects ranging from incoming freshman pre-algebra to help students prepare for college math to students in Calc 2. Since starting with Varsity in 2018, I have tutored students in high school from introductory algebra to pre-calculus and SAT prep. I always felt like I was stupid because I struggled every year, while my classmates seemed to understand everything I couldn't! Turns out, I had undiagnosed ADHD! Now, diagnosed in my 30s, and with 3 children of my own, I work hard to advocate for creativity and student empowerment in classrooms. Learning doesn't HAVE to be a struggle! Learning SHOULD be fun! I know first hand how hard it is to try and force your brain to absorb information in ways it simply isn't designed to. So, my goal is to break that cycle, to inject positivity, hope, creativity, and passion into learning. Every student deserve the chance to learn and grow in the way that makes sense to THEM! I work with students in middle school, high school and college level math. My daytime job, for six plus years, was tutoring college students in math and electronics. I don't just give out the answers but I help the student with the methods to find the answers. I can help with algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, AP calculus, math I, II and III. I am also very good with computers and Microsoft Excel.

I have a degree from the University of Michigan in Judaic studies, although I switched to that field from electrical engineering and computer science.I've loved teaching for a long time, and my favorite part has always been personalizing lessons and teaching styles for individual students. Everybody is different, and everybody has their own best way to learn. I make it my mission to find that most effective method for all of my students.Aside from tutoring, I like playing music, competitive fighting game tournaments, and game design.
