I am currently an engineer in the design and construction industry for an international construction company, and a recent graduate from the University of Arizona. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering in May 2016 and left my roots in Tucson, Arizona. In my spare time, I enjoy soaking up the beautiful views around here by hiking, running, and adventuring. My hobbies also include cooking and baking, beauty pageants, bargain shopping, and traveling whenever the opportunity arises. I began tutoring elementary and middle school students in basic study skills, math, and reading at a young age, and have been tutoring since. From there, my tutoring experiences have expanded to help students of all ages from primary school to university level in basic math, pre-calculus, college level math; biology, chemistry, physics; Spanish and SAT and ACT prep. I believe that any student is capable of learning and mastering any concept - and that a bit of patience, hard work, and faith get you a long way.

I'm an older fella, having spent over 30 years in the banking industry. But in my present life as a professional tutor, I work closely with young people (elementary school, middle school, high school, and university students) to overcome academic and learning difficulties, and experience with them the satisfaction of good results.I've come to learn some important things about tutoring; that:* Effective tutoring is usually as much about mentoring as it is about teaching.* There should be no limits to the creativity that the tutor is prepared to bring to the table in helping a student (going beyond the presentation of black letters or numbers on a white page).* In addition to solidifying basic skills, it's critically important to build up a student's creativity, confidence, and resilience, in moving toward the ultimate goals of enhancing the student's original thinking and capacity for independent learning.* Above all, patience is the greatest virtue.I look forward to the opportunity to work closely with my students at Varsity Tutors and help them to reach their fullest potential.

I am a structural bridge engineer currently working for a company in Boston. I have always had an interest in teaching either Math or Science but chose a different career path. I keep my passion for teaching and helping others in the subjects I am interested in through tutoring; it is something I thoroughly enjoy doing while helping students excel and achieve their potential in areas they might be struggling in. I have been tutoring in the greater Boston area for the last nine years and have found it rewarding watching students succeed in areas they didn't think they could; moreover, I have patient step by step teaching style that has seemed to work well with a variety of students.

I recently left my post as a graduate student and researcher at Stanford University to pursue a career in medicine. My educational journey has been a long one, but I've always loved learning and that love has kept me in school (whether for better or worse :P) for more years than I can count. Though I don't plan on being a student forever, the time that I've spent preparing for college, graduate school, and now medical school has reminded me of how enabling a strong academic record can be.I've been tutoring since I was in high school and have worked with students at every level of education. I specialize in teaching from a very fundamental perspective and in building concepts from the ground up but also enjoy helping students to "just get done" with their homework. Though I'm particularly fond of math and science, I can provide assistance in almost any subject (from Latin to world geography to art history), and can also help in preparing students for standardized tests such as the SAT, GRE, and MCAT.Above all though, my approach to tutoring is simply about having fun and inspiring students to do their best. Assignments and tests are really just chances for students to demonstrate how much they already know, and allowing each student to shine at his or her brightest is what tutoring is all about.

I received an undergraduate degree in Physics and a minor in Spanish from Lawrence University, WI where I built up a lot of tutoring experience in many math subjects. This includes working with students who do not feel they have a 'math brain' or are insecure about their math abilities. I am currently tutoring Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Arithmetic, Elementary Math, Geometry, Middle School Math, and Pre-Algebra, in addition to introductory Spanish levels and general homework help. I have experience specifically working with students that have trouble focusing and have worked with children with ADHD though I am not specially licensed for working with children with learning disabilities. Math is obviously my favorite subject to tutor because I love finding new ways to explain concepts I am already so familiar with and use on a regular basis, as I am currently working on a graduate degree in Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. My teaching approach with students is very similar to the approach I use with myself when I am struggling to learn a new concept. I try presenting the concept in a new way, or going back to what the student (or myself) knows and working my way up. Besides math, I also love food, cooking, and learning new recipes!

I graduated with a B.S. in Earth and Space Sciences from the University of Washington this last summer.Science has always been my favorite subject in school, and I loved getting to use my hands to conduct experiments. I love discovering how things work, and it makes me appreciate the world that I live in that much more. Last year I volunteered at Nova High School helping out with a biology class as well as tutoring math on occasion. I even got to plan and teach my own lesson on mass extinctions taking what I learned from observing the teacher teach over the last couple months and implementing my own style as well.My volunteer experience is a continuation of my four years at the Woodland Park Zoo. I taught visitors about the various animals on exhibit and about conservation. I worked there throughout high school, and through it got to learn how fun teaching could be. On a typical day I would talk with hundreds of people of all different ages, backgrounds, and interests. I learned to be flexible in my teaching strategies, shifting focus and tailoring my talk for each group that I got to talk to. I got to make learning fun and exciting. I loved the look on a kid’s face when they learned something new.Later throughout my undergrad I got several other opportunities in education as an interpreter at the Burke Museum and as a TAA for the ESS Department at the University of Washington. I had lots of fun working with the Burke Museum, and as a TAA and am looking forward to working with more students in the future.

My name is Jasmine and I am extremely passionate about tutoring students in math. I have noticed that math is not many students favorite subject. I am looking for an opportunity to tutor students having difficulty in some areas related to basic math through Algebra. I understand that the problems are sometimes intimidating, but I like to teach my students that the problem consist of words and numbers; therefore if they understand basic numbers and words, they can solve the problem. I look forward to helping students solve problems, practice and review concepts that need to be reviewed. I like to apply problems to real life situations or use examples from areas that interest the student. I first found my love for math in the 5th grade. My interest in math grew in the 6th grade and continued through high school. In high school is when it was confirmed - math is my favorite subject. I love that math concept build one after another - most of the time. I love the fact that knowing the basics, I can solve the problem without a calculator.Next, I enjoy teaching students and watching them grow. I like learning from the student because sometimes the student knows more than they think they know - they just need someone to point it out for them. I have learned and strongly believe that education and knowledge is one thing that cannot be taken away from an individual; therefore I love to teach my students confidence and encourage them to learn, and share this knowledge with them.
