I've tutored for 3 semesters at Northeastern in Algebra 2, Pre-calc, and Intro levels of Macro and Micro economics.I absolutely love tutoring math, seeing homework problems get completed is incredibly satisfying. More importantly, learning to think through a problem critically and really understand why your answer is right is a very important skill that applies to all problem solving in any phase of life. The reason I've chosen to study Finance and Economics is to apply that same critical thinking to bigger/more applied situations such as running a successful business and developing economic policy.My tutoring style is very conversational. I recently graduated from Babson College with a bachelor's in Science. I was born in the Dominican Republic. I moved to the United States when I was eight years. Throughout my education career, I worked in a variety of different fields. The one thing that remained the same for me, was my mission to help others.I enjoy helping others because seeing them happy, makes me happy. In high school, I decided to run my own tutoring services, where I helped middle schoolers with their language levels, both English and Spanish. I also tutored in the math field. When it came to Algebra, I also frequently tutored my high school friends. One efficient strategy that worked for me was having the person I tutored, tutor me back. Having them teach me how to solve a problem, or how to pronounce or say something correctly, showed me if they learned something, or were still confused.I consider myself to be an outgoing person. Someone who likes to meet new people. I also liked solving problems. Combining these two, was where my passion for teaching began. When I was younger, I wanted to be a math teacher. I absolutely love teaching! I've taught ESL, Spanish and Italian to students ages 7 through adulthood! I teach Spanish and Italian in a high school during the day and then teach ESL to adults and young children two evenings each week. During the summer months you'd think I'd rest right? Nope! I take my amazing 12 year old son and we travel to Central America to help build homes during the morning hours and I then spend the afternoons alternating between a middle school and a high school teaching ESL. I consider myself blessed to say that I have a career doing something I absolutely love and enjoy!I was raised in New York and received a B.A. in Hispanic Languages and Literature from SUNY Stony Brook. While doing my undergraduate study, I concentrated my studies in the Central and South American regions. I did research into DNA damage detection, or to put it simply, I did research on how cells find problems with their own DNA and ways that that goes wrong. I enjoyed my time in Chicago: good food, good friends, and you do get used to the cold winters.For undergrad, I stayed relatively local at Franklin & Marshall College. I can honestly say that I loved my time there where I was involved in student leadership, rugby, and research. Sometimes I even hung out with my friends.As for now, I am transitioning to living back in the Philly area and thought it would be an excellent idea to tutor. I still play rugby and try to find time for friends and family that have missed me while I lived in Chicago.
