I received my bachelor's degree in writing from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 2009.During the course of my undergraduate degree (and even before that and forward through today), I have published and won multiple awards in fiction, poetry, academic essay and song writing. Currently, I write regularly for web and print media. This work has included literary magazines, news sites, and blogs. I also have been able to freelance and ghostwrite for print and online platforms.During my undergraduate degree, I took a writing tutor course that helped me to gain theory and skills for being a writing tutor. In the class, I learned about meeting tutees where they are and to really listen to and find out what questions need addressing (everyone is different). I learned how to lead with helpful resources that can be used ongoing, even if/when tutees are unable to work with me. The goal, always, is to help direct tutees to become stronger writers who can at some point stand on their own.The writing tutor course led to work in the Community College of Denver writing tutor center where I helped numerous tutees with their essays, poems, fiction pieces and other writings. Outside of the writing tutor center, I have also helped coach professionals, non-profit bloggers, and artists gain direction, skills, and confidence in the writing craft.I love being able to guide students towards self-sufficiency. I often boast that I am a resources girl, and that writing is a learned skill which requires practice. Anyone, with enough diligence can master it. I think that writing is such a powerful tool. In many cases it gives people a voice. This is something I have learned from taking part as a volunteer and poet in Art from Ashes workshops (a Denver-based nonprofit organization that uses poetry and other art to empower youth). In the beginning, students are often quiet or even rambunctious, but during the course of the workshops, students begin to realize the power in their own words. It's a wonderful thing to witness!In January, I will begin Regis University's inaugural low residency MFA where I will focus on fiction writing and poetry while I freelance for news and other content print and web media. I am excited about this. I consider it buying time to further hone my own writing (I am always learning), and I'm looking forward to being able to offer more from that experience.

I am a recent graduate of Pennsylvania State University working in the Social Media Technology Industry.I am creative and am able to operate in unconventional situations and have been chosen for various leadership positions because of these attributes. I am currently a philosophy student at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, majoring in philosophy, with much of my studies revolving around social justice and the cultivation of an equitable society for all. Often, I become an impromptu tutor in many of my classes, and due to the diverse learning environment at MCTC, I tutor students of various ages and backgrounds. Further, my experience in philosophy has led me to many discussion circles wherein a number of students, myself included, are working together towards a greater comprehension of a difficult text. These experiences have led me to a general teaching ethos of flexibility and adaptation. I believe the tutor should be working to meet the student on their level, and I take every opportunity I can to adapt my style of teaching to the individual's proficiencies. My favorite subjects to tutor are English, writing, college essays, ACT reading, ACT writing, and philosophy. When I'm not tutoring, I spend much of my time reading either for class, or self-educating within a number of subjects. Besides that, I do a lot of cooking and sewing.

Before becoming a nurse I worked as a medical assistant for 10 years. It was during that time my passion and love for the medical field really blossomed. I am now a Medical Assisting Program Director instructing future MA's to love what they do and have a career, not just a job. I received my BSN from UAMS College of Nursing, my Master's from Miami and I am currently finishing my dissertation through Grand Canyon University. I enjoy tutoring pharmacology, medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, laboratory courses & skills, EKG, phlebotomy and preparation courses for the RMA/CMA licensure exams. I recently graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a Masters Degree in English. I love learning and I believe that it can be enlightening and fun. But, I also know that the process can be frustrating at times. The mark of a great tutor is his or her ability to address each individual's needs so that learning can become an empowering tool rather than a stumbling block. Working with students in small groups and in one-on-one settings to this end is a passion of mine. I love collaborating with individuals to better understand their learning style and to best help them succeed. I tutor for all things English related, but I also offer Math help from the elementary level up through middle school and Geometry. I also believe that there is a balance between working hard and letting yourself play and relax, no matter how old you get! Things I like to do for fun are read a good book, write creatively, watch great films and talk about them, take a hike, go running, volunteer in my community, cook delicious dishes, explore new places and meet new people. Many times a student has experienced challenges with reading which causes them to not enjoy it as much mostly because it has been hard for them.I am passionate about literacy and I make it my goal to help the students gain a positive reading experience that will foster a love for literacy and learning. Hopefully this positive light will carry over into their future.My experience in working with students is with kindergarten through eighth graders in the school setting. I have been a 5th grade classroom teacher for 10 years, then I served as a 7th and 8th grade teacher for 3 years. More recently I spent 8 years as a Reading Specialist for grades K-4 before becoming a Principal for a K-3 elementary school.I earned my Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University, then I earned my first Master's degree in Reading Instruction from Aurora University. Recently, I earned a second Master's degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University.My favorite subjects to tutor are Reading, Writing and English Language Arts. These are my favorite because I am an avid reader and I find enjoyment in escaping to the setting of the book as a character from the story.In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and new granddaughter.
