While at the University of the West of England, I worked in the UWE Outreach Center. From October 2008 until August 2012, I worked under the AimHigher and SchoolsLink programs mentoring and tutoring local elementary and high school pupils. I promoted and provided pupils with the resources to realize the goal of attaining higher education, desired exam results, and a better understanding of core subjects while sharing the opportunities that my university (UWE) had to offer on and beyond campus. This was done through in class teaching support/assistance mostly in Math classes; one-to-one or small group sessions in school libraries tutoring or mentoring students with specific needs; chaperoning and leading open day campus tours and university sponsored educational trips; and personally presenting motivational assembly speeches. A high level of communication, organization, and creativity was developed through the interactive sessions with pupils; many of the activities and lessons were planned, lead, and delivered independently and with input from school teachers. I found the impact I made in the positive and productive direction, decision, and achievement of the young pupils to be extremely rewarding. In June 2010, I was selected to be a part of the Student Associates Scheme. This was a three week UK Government sponsored teaching placement in City Academy Bristol high school supporting the Mathematics department and lessons as full time teaching assistant. In the university I also took my developed teaching style into sports. As the treasurer of the university Dance Squad and the Vice Captain of the Competitive Cheerleading Squad, I volunteered in local elementary schools by running afterschool clubs and programs for dance and cheerleading.

One of the most important things I have learned as a tutor/teacher is that every student learns differently, and it is crucial as an educator to be able to adjust accordingly. I pride myself on being able to adapt my teaching/tutoring style to meet student needs. This includes: being patient with students as they work through problems in their own way, being resourceful and prepared in order to respond to students' questions as they arise, and being enthusiastic with the subject material so as to maintain the students' interest. With these traits and characteristics as the backbone of my teaching/tutoring philosophy, I have been, and believe I will continue to be, quite successful at helping students achieve a greater understanding and appreciation of mathematics. As for my qualifications, I have a B.S. in Mathematics from Wake Forest University, an M.S. in Mathematics from North Carolina State University, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from NC State as well.

I am an Old Dominion University graduate with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology. I am also currently working to get my certification in teaching. I was a teacher and teacher assistant for a private school in Virginia for about 2 years. During that time I worked with students of all ages but my primary focus was elementary school age children. While I am able to tutor a wide range of subjects, my primary subject of choice is Math for all grades as well as Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Statistics. I am passionate about helping students reach their goal of a better education and I love to see them understanding new subjects or subjects that they may have previously struggled in. Education is important for everyone and I hope to make it fun and enjoyable for those I tutor.

Patience, clear communication, and creating step by step processes for problem solving are the tools that help me teach students the concepts they need to learn. With a bachelor's degree in finance, my foundation in math helps me pass down information in a variety of understandable approaches. I hope that through my passion of teaching I am able to understand the students thought process and help them be more analytical in their problem solving.

"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." -Albert EinsteinIn this world of standardized tests and teaching to the lowest common denominator, students are falling through the cracks. It is my mission to help people realize how easy education and subjects can be. If someone fails a class it is the failing of the instructor not the student. We used to have these values and I am trying to bring them back. Learning is fun and just requires work like anything else. I am trying to make education easy and simple.I am currently seeking to get my MBA from ASU. As such, many of my favorite subjects are business related. I love supply chain management and how it relates to everything in the business field. Understanding how logistics works and how interconnected everything is fascinates me. But as I got my start in mathematics, I try to relate everything to teachable theories that breakdown into simple facts. My tutoring style is often based on this approach. Everything is related as long as you are able to make that connection. I like to take something that seems foreign and break it down into its basic concepts and relate that to something that is familiar. I have found that small victories win wars.Outside of education, I am an avid hiker. I live in one of the greatest states to do it in and I plan on exploring all over. Outside of hiking, I enjoy travelling, beer surfing, couch surfing, and karaoke. If I am not out doing something, I am then snuggled up reading a good book or watching a great movie. I find that people who forget to take pleasure in the simple things in life often find themselves at a lost.

I finished my PhD at Arizona State last year, and moved to Minneapolis to co-found a biomedical engineering startup. Before Arizona, I received a BS in electrical engineering at the University of Virginia.Over the past five years I've taught quite a few lab courses, mostly in electronics for biomedical students. I enjoy helping to guide students to a better understanding, so they can explain a concept in their own words (not just in my words). I like to draw out visual explanations whenever possible, for math and science concepts. I've been excited about all kinds of science for pretty much all my life, and I hope I can convey some of this excitement!Outside of academia, I'm into climbing and good board games.
