I received my B.S. from Union College where I majored in Chemistry and double minored in Dance and Theatrical Makeup. I then received my M.S. from Boston College where I specialized in Organic Chemistry. I have been teaching Chemistry and Physical Science in public and private high school for the past 3 years. I have been doing private tutoring Chemistry since I was a sophomore in college. I particularly love showing students how what they are studying is directly related to the world around them using traditional lecture as well as interactive visuals. I truly believe every student can succeed at science and do everything in my power to instill a passion and love for science in all my students. Outside of science, I spend most of my free time reading, running or performing in various dance companies.

My favorite thing about teaching is getting to know my students and finding out what they love. By finding out what a student is passionate about, I can help connect that to their learning goals. This way, they are engaged in learning and feel that it's actually relevant to their lives.I first became interested in teaching during my initial years at NYU, where I developed my own course of study on Child and Adolescent Literacy. I studied how reading develops in a child's brain and how reading is taught in schools. I also focused on how diversity in children's literature impacts identity development. I went on to study Education at UCLA in their Teacher Education Program, where I earned my MEd and California Preliminary Teaching Credential. Throughout my college years, I gained experience working with Pre-K, TK, K, 1st, 2nd, and 4th-grade classes. Once I obtained my credential and graduated, I gained more experience working at a bilingual (Spanish) school teaching 1st-grade, and later at art and social justice-based school teaching 6th grade.I've been an assistant and student teacher in Pre-K, TK, K, 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade. I've been the lead teacher in 1st grade and 6th-grade classrooms. I've taught all subjects in both English and Spanish at the elementary level.Outside of tutoring, I love watching TV and movies. I probably spend at least 1-2 hours a day checking out new content. My favorite shows right now are probably Westworld, Money Heist, and Elite. I also love reading books, mostly fiction and YA. If I'm outside, I like to skateboard and try to land new tricks, either on my street or at the skate park.

In 2012 I received my B.S. in Environmental Science at the University of Toledo. From there, I went north to the University of Michigan to get an M.S. in Conservation Ecology. Currently, I'm a PhD student at Bowling Green State University where I study and teach biology. Throughout my studies, I've gained a lot of experience in teaching, tutoring, and learning. I've worked with students that have unique learning styles, and that come from a diversity of backgrounds. This has equipped me to be an effective teacher, and to help my students reach their learning goals.I enjoy figuring out the learning styles of each student. This allows me to help students when it comes to learning, studying, and test taking. My goal is to help my students become independent learners, so that they can be successful in their academic future. In addition, I try to help students apply coursework to real-world scenarios to make concept relevant.Typically, I work with students looking to improve their understanding in math, science, and standardized tests (i.e. ACT, SAT, GRE). I am currently a junior studying chemical engineering at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. Although I am not working towards an education degree, I enjoy helping fellow classmates and tutoring students in subjects where they may not feel confident in. I have the most experience in tutoring middle schoolers, and comfortable with high schoolers as well. In college, I volunteer from time to time to work with high school students who come to our organization to ask for help. Additionally, I am the oldest child in my family. I am used to helping my younger sister and brother who are two to three years younger than me with their homework. The subjects I mainly tutor in is mathematics and science. For math, I enjoy tutoring middle school math, different levels of algebra, and pre-calculus to differential calculus. For science, I can help in chemistry and physics. My favorite subject to tutor is algebra because I find it to be very logical and programs are very systematic. I am a visual learner myself, so I tend to use as much graphics tools as needed for the student. I also am very straightforward with my teaching style, especially in mathematics. However, I always ask my students how they learn things in school and am open to help them understand it in a way they would remember the material.Outside of the academia, I enjoy being outdoors and playing sports, like ultimate frisbee. I ran cross-country in high school, and continue to run long distance today as a hobby. Additionally, I like to hang out with friends, whether its shopping, watching movies, or just chatting.

My name is Timothy Vasilyev and I'm a student at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor pursuing a major in finance and a minor in mathematics. During the summer of 2017, I suffered a serious knee injury that ended my dreams of playing college basketball; consequently, I shifted my focus from basketball to getting into some of the top institutions in the country. This is something my parents, who are both immigrants with PHD's, always wanted for me and thus, I spent the rest of the summer after my surgery self-studying for the SAT and ultimately improved my score by 200 points (scoring in the 99th percentile for Math). I also succeeded at getting into my dream school, the University of Michigan.Outside of school/academics, I currently am working for an investment bank called Eaton Square based in San Francisco while taking a an academic gap year. I primarily focus on the CloudTech, Visual Computing Tech, and MedTech industries and am specifically working on merger & acquisition and private placement transactions within those spaces. I also have experience working in investment management, having interned at a firm called Cetera Investors, and have also dipped my toes into the start-up world having interned at a solar energy company called Tau Science.
