The best educators / teachers will say that seeing students have the "light bulb" moment is what keeps them in the profession and what makes the struggle worthwhile. I know it's why I began teaching and why I choose to continue in the profession.I first encountered this feeling when I was a tutor for math and science students in college. I was able to help students reach that feeling often over the course of the semester, and even over the course of a session. After I began teaching, I found students certainly benefit from a skilled and committed teacher. But not nearly as much as they can from a skilled tutor. The content knowledge and methods of teaching skills / content can be focused to meet the individual student in a way that it simply can't in a full classroom.Guiding the student to their own "light bulb" moment is something that I always aim for with each session and is something that I've found happens more often with tutoring. I look forward to helping others turn on that bulb.

I am sophomore at Amherst College, working towards obtaining an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, with a potential double major in either Psychology or Black Studies. I have always enjoyed teaching others and helping my peers with their homework, especially in math. I really love working with students to help them understand concepts they find difficult by looking at those concepts from different angles. I have done some one-on-one math tutor, as well as often helping my peers with their math homework in various levels of math. I tutor many math subjects, including elementary math, pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, pre-Calculus and Calculus 1. Math has always been my favorite subject, and I like to tutor math because I think anyone is capable of doing math if they are taught in a method they can understand. I like to work with students to find an approach to math problems that they comprehend. I will try multiple approaches to the same problem until I find one that works for each specific student. Outside of tutoring and school, I love to meet new people and try new things. I enjoy watching football, painting and crafting, reading, and baking.

I am a graduate of Park University, where I received a Biology degree with a minor in Chemistry. I have since gone back to school and am currently studying applied physics at the University of Kansas, where I am also a teaching assistant in the physics department. I have been involved in tutoring since my high school days, where I received the International Baccalaureate Diploma from North Kansas City High School. Tutoring was an important component of the community service aspect of the diploma, and I was able to work with students in the areas of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Biology. In college, I was also involved in tutoring, working with students in a range of subjects from College Algebra to Calculus in math, and all sorts of science courses, including Genetics, Physics, and Molecular Cell Biology. I tutor a wide range of math and science classes, but my favorites are Algebra, Calculus, and Physics. When working with a student, I have found that showing the student that you are excited and interested in the subject, as well as connecting it to a real world situation or profession makes the atmosphere fun and relaxed. Under those circumstances, learning is easier and the knowledge is more effectively retained. I believe that a strong math and science education lays the foundation for success in any field, as skills such as critical thinking can be broadly applied to all career paths. In my free time, I am an avid concert goer, Sporting Kansas City supporter, reader, and long distance runner.

I am a Civil Engineering graduate of the University of South Florida. I enjoyed all of engineering and science classes, but my favorite subject has always been math. Many people have the exact opposite feeling about math, which is why it is my favorite subject to tutor! The problem solving and critical thinking skills that we use in math are applicable in all areas of education, and life for that matter. It's important to know the concepts necessary to solve the problem, not just the answer to the one problem in front of you. When I am tutoring a student, I endeavor to help them use what they already know to solve the problem, step by step. Usually the student knows more than they think, they just need to learn how to use it!

I did my undergraduate work at Arizona University, where I majored in Psychology, with a minor in Statistics. While I tutor Chinese, Psychology, and math I find math the most interesting and challenging. I like to explain the world with math concepts, which is easy and beautiful. Since I studied my math in China, I feel comfortable to transfer these concepts to the US classroom.I consider math and psychology as sciences and I believe the two can be used to understand each other.Besides math and psychology, as I've mentioned, I also tutor Chinese. In fact, I am currently tutoring an elementary student. Through my tutoring experience I have found ways to modify standards and to to gain feedback from my student. As I am a linguistic lover, I like to explore the language field with my student by sharing the topics we both like most.In the free time, I like to read new academic information in my field of study, play basketball and travel. Arizona is an amazing state and I am excited to see all it has to offer!

Since I graduated from UT Austin in 1988, I have realized that a teacher isn't what I do, it is what I am. Every person has the right to learn and understand what is being presented to them. If you don't understand it, my job is to find a way to bring it to you. By working together, I hope you can find the joy of mathematics that I have found.

After home-schooling my way through high school, I went to Stanford, receiving a B.S. in Biology, and a minor in pre-med, so I'm quite strong with science.I have a lot of experience teaching disparate subjects. I have been teaching biology, chemistry, physics, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus to high school and university students for about 12 years. Similarly, have 12 years of experience with the SAT, ACT, and ISEE/SSAT, and about 4 years of experience teaching GRE and GMAT.As far as hobbies go, I enjoy reading science fiction, classic literature, and comic books. Rock-climbing is a big thing for me, as is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I'm also into dancing, including salsa, bachata, zouk, swing, and Argentine tango. Also I love science! I study it every day to make sure I'm on top of the classes I teach.I look forward to seeing you soon!

I graduated summa cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 2012. I received my Bachelor of Arts in political science and my Bachelor of Science in economics. After graduating, I immediately moved to New York City to attend Columbia Law School, where I will receive my JD in May, 2015. Throughout undergraduate, I regularly tutored economics, math, and statistics courses at the school's tutoring center, and helped several students to turn around their class performance. I also enjoy helping students prepare for standardized test, whether that be the SAT or the LSAT. Especially with regard to the SAT Math, I love helping students understand the various curveballs that CollegeBoard often throws, and assisting them in achieving better scores than they thought possible. I am also passionate about Texas Rangers baseball, and fill an inordinate amount of my free time with fantasy sports and statistical research on the sport.
