I believe that learning is a lifelong process and I feel fortunate to have been involved in the education of countless students over the past thirteen years. I began tutoring my peers in middle school after my parents pointed out that it would help reinforce my own knowledge. In preparation for the SATs, I attended a private test prep center where I learned specialized strategies for standardized tests. After receiving a perfect score of 800 on the math section of my SATs, I was invited to begin working at a private test prep company. My age and affable nature helped foster the relationship between younger, unruly students and their adult instructors.I received my Bachelor of Science in Physics from Florida Atlantic University and began tutoring college students, many of whom were returning to their education after taking time off. My most frequently tutored subjects include Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus), Physics, Chemistry, and standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, and GRE). My favorite subject to tutor would be Physics because of the multitude of ways that concepts can be used to intrigue students' curiosities, stimulate their creativity, or sometimes simply leave them in awe of the world in which they live. Additionally, the useful applications of Algebra and Geometry create opportunities to engage students by highlighting their practical value.I am fascinated by the different learning styles and how I can adapt my tutoring method to a student's specific strengths and weaknesses. When I begin with a new student, I focus on flexibility as we become accustomed to one another. As time progresses and we enact a personalized lesson plan, my expectations increase accordingly as does each student's accountability. I strongly believe that it behooves all learners to employ a useful toolkit of reasoning and comprehension skills. In addition to teaching the material for examinations, I devote a small fraction of our time to developing these abilities that will foster learning in many areas. During my free time, I enjoy traveling with my family to experience other cultures. My other hobbies include reading, playing chess, and building computers.

My purpose is to serve the youth and promote youth development. As an Eagle Scout, my early commitment to service afforded me several key opportunities to serve in administrative, leadership preparatory positions. At Morehouse College, I served as a Bonner Community Service Scholar, where I primarily served as a tutor and mentor to middle and high school students through a West Atlanta youth empowerment organization, Raising Expectations. In addition to boosting the students mathematical performance on the CRCT and EOCT, I gained valuable recruitment experience while presenting to and recruiting volunteers from the metro Atlanta colleges and universities. While studying mathematics at Morehouse College, I conducted undergraduate research for two years. I was able to form statistical correlations between ten socioeconomic factors and air pollutant concentrations. During this experience, I was also able to develop an index to determine the most ecologically sustainable colleges in the metro Atlanta area. I gained professional presentation experience introducing my findings at various research conferences throughout the Southeast region.During the 2011/2012 school term, as an AmeriCorps service member at Georgia State University, I demonstrated on a daily basis my ability to teach, tutor, and mentor middle and high school level mathematics students. Additionally, I created community service projects for a local Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) project. In preparation for the GYSD, I was responsible for collaborating with several non-profit organizations in order to recruit volunteers, install free energy-efficient light bulbs in West Atlanta residences, as well as plant trees and establish a teachers' lounge at Woodson Elementary School. This summer, our AmeriCorps program developed DREAMS Summer Institute, a culturally relevant summer enrichment program for disadvantaged high school students, at Georgia State University. I was responsible for developing a teaching model in accordance to the GA Performance Standards and was instrumental in recruiting students in preparation for the program in addition to teaching all mathematics courses for the program."There is no progress without struggle."- Frederick Douglass. I understand struggle. In spite of my early struggles in mathematics, I have gone on to earn a BS in Mathematics, with a minor in Physics. I mold my instruction behind that of my high school Calculus teacher. His approach was rooted in the following question: "What does this have to do with what I already know?" This approach helps me lead my students to probe their minds for their current mathematical tools. It is then my job to help them bridge the gap of knowledge and application to help them reach new knowledge and understanding. Assess, Review, Challenge, Review, Repeat. This is my method for success.

Hey there! My name is Nathaniel, and I graduated from UT Austin in 2016 with degrees in Biochemistry and Psychology. I've had over 8 years of tutoring experience in different areas, primarily in mathematics and the natural sciences. I began tutoring my mom's friend's children in algebra 1, algebra 2, and geometry while still in middle school. This is the point at which I realized the reward in helping others learn, inciting my passion for tutoring. I went on to continue assisting classmates in high school, ultimately tutoring around a dozen different students while in college. In fact, I even served as a teaching assistant my junior year, helping grade assignments. In my free time, I like to play sports, lift weights, and volunteer. I ultimately plan on attending medical school, aiming for admission in 2018. I'm open to many different physician specialties, but have found psychiatry, neurosurgery, and orthopedics the most interesting so far. Other fun facts about me are that I've been skydiving 25 times (certified), biked from Austin, Texas to Anchorage Alaska to raise money and awareness for cancer research as part of the UT organization Texas 4000, and worked at a haunted house this past October. My teaching approach is different from others in that I do not wish to instruct students as if they were in a class, but by putting it in terms that would resonate most with them. Thus, I strive to not only further your children's insight in a given subject area, but to also allow them to actually appreciate different subjects and how they relate to the world around them. I look forward to working with your child, and will hopefully hear from you soon!

As a pre-medical student at Princeton University, I've had significant experience with a vast array of subjects in both learning and teaching roles. I started tutoring in high school and have been hooked ever since! I enjoy helping others succeed in any way I can. After spending a few years helping students in my hometown prepare for the SAT, I've more recently focused on the hard sciences. I've taught students of all ages in the past and I believe it is important to curtail your teaching methods to the student's favorite learning style. Whether you're a visual, auditory, or tactile learner (or some combination of all three!), I'm confident I can assist you in understanding and mastering difficult concepts!I plan to matriculate to medical school in the summer of 2014 after taking a gap year filled with relaxation, a lot of hockey, and hopefully some scuba diving if I'm lucky enough to escape the barren oceanic depths of New Jersey!

Though math may be my first love, my natural curiosity for the world around me has led to many varied interests: from camping to painting to cooking to carpentry to screenwriting to city planning. My passions may be disparate, but they allow me to draw up real-life examples for abstract questions, making them more accessible to students. 'But I'll never need to use this stuff in real life' is a refrain I'm not afraid to challenge. I hope to give students a new perspective on not just the importance, but the utility and beauty of math, no matter what field they plan to go into.Coming from a large family, I spent many a family gathering helping my younger cousinsfrom ages 5 to 22with their math homework. I've worked closely with kids, teens, and college students in several capacities: as a Big Sister, an advisor to a youth Venturing Crew, a technical director for high-school theater productions, and a Resident Advisor (RA) to college freshmen.Originally from the Philadelphia area, I only recently moved to Los Angeles and am quickly growing to love the city and its inhabitants.

My first experience with tutoring occurred while helping my family members in multiple math subjects. I then tutored algebra, geometry and physics at my local high school. My love for math and science, specifically chemistry, are driving me to become a chemical engineer. I hope that by showing younger generations real and useful applications of math and science they can become more excited about it. I'm a firm believer in positive attitudes being contagious and my main goal is to eradicate the negative stigma that surrounds math classes. By breaking down classes like algebra, calculus and geometry I can get students to understand simple concepts and then work on compounding these ideas into the "bigger picture" that each of these courses wishes to convey.

ACT Math Tutor • +45 Subjects

Hi! I'm Bill, a high school teacher with a true passion for mathematics. I have been tutoring for more than 3 years and have had great success with my students, ranging from middle school(8th grade) to high school, and non-traditional students. I began tutoring by helping students after school in my high school classes, and am now looking to help others outside of the classroom. I have 4 years experience with high and middle school students, and am very patient and enjoy helping others to learn. My students have fun while they study and are always proud of their progress. I try to encourage a genuine interest in any subject studied. I enjoy engaging my students with fun and challenging math problems and want to make sure that my students grasp the concept completely, rather than partially. Many students have asked me, "What's the point of this? How would I use this in my life?" Well, good news is that I like to apply math to real world situations to allow my students to fully understand the relevance and necessity of knowing and using math in their everyday lives. I have a large range of teaching experience from very young to adult. I enjoy teaching and am considered to have a caring approach and I try to make sure that learning takes place in a relaxed but studious situation. If you are interested in a tutor with excellent experience of teaching math and a caring, supportive approach, then please contact me. My aim is always to raise the achievements of my pupils beyond their own expectations with challenging and rewarding lessons.

I recently retired from 39 years of teaching nearly all subjects and levels of High School Math and Science (primarily Physics), along with some Theatre! During my time in the high school classroom, I taught Biology through AP, Chemistry, and Physics through AP 1 and AP C. I have also taught most subjects in high school Math, including Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB. My favorite subjects to teach and tutor are Physics at any level and Algebra 2 or Precalculus.I have a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, CT (my home state, though I have lived in Jacksonville, FL, for the past nearly 40 years). I have also taught as an adjunct professor at most of my local area's colleges and universities. My teaching and tutoring style center on student-based learning, allowing students to solve their own problems with "leading questions" and not providing a simple step-by-step solution. I am proud to say that, over the past 30-plus years, I have had many of my students go on to post-secondary education in Math, Physics, and Engineering. In my spare time, I enjoy theatre (directing and acting), singing, musical theatre, film, writing, reading, and travel. I have also taught Theatre and Musical Theatre, as well!
