My sense of humor follows the 80/20 rule: 80% of my jokes work about 20% of the time. When I teach a class, if I haven't made them laugh at least once then I've failed.I know what it's like to suffer as a math student. Math was my hardest subject in high school and even made me cry sometimes. When I...

I graduated from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University with a B.S. in physics and a B.S. in mathematics. I was recently accepted into the graduate program at UC Davis, where I will study and perform research for several years to earn a doctorate in physics. From there, I hope to proceed to a faculty position at a university, where I can continue to do research and both teach and inspire future students. When I am not studying or performing research, I enjoy playing video games, card games, or role-playing games with my friends. I also am an amateur engineer, participating in the online community of laser enthusiasts. Together, we construct circuitry, design housings, and align lenses to create not laser pens for pets, but high-powered, scientific lab lasers. While studying at ASU, I regularly worked with fellow students on mathematics and physics problems that they found challenging. In high school, I tutored a middle school student weekly in organizational and homework skills, mathematics, and science. Because of my specialty in math and physics, I am most comfortable tutoring those two subjects, ranging from Freshman physics through quantum theory and from algebra through more advanced mathematics subjects such as real analysis. Further, I enjoy it! Both mathematics and physics are sciences of problem-solving and perseverance, but once a solution is found, the work is greatly rewarding. In past experiences teaching and tutoring, I have found that I tend to lecture and use examples to ensure my classmates or students are not only capable of getting the right answer, but understanding why the answer they obtain is the correct one. I find that lecturing is useful to provide explanations for concepts that the student would otherwise have to simply memorize (and not understand), and the working of examples is useful to reinforce the methods and concepts used when solving particular problems. Regardless of how I am working with a student, however, I tend to always introduce a sort of humor and quirkiness that is necessary to set the light, easy-going mood that defines my teaching style.

I am a graduate of the University ofWisconsin-Madison where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and I hold certificates in Biology in Engineering and Global Health. After graduating, I have taken a gap year before focusing on medical school. As for tutoring, I am passionate about STEM learning with a stronger focus on math at all levels. I also enjoy preparing for Standardized Tests like the SAT and ACT as well as the MCAT, where my specialties are the math sections primarily. My teaching style is very example and imaged based revolving around students working through the concepts and teaching with the students, not at them.

I'm an undergraduate at Rice University. Growing up in Houston, I left home after freshman year of high school to attend the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, from where I graduated high school early with two years of college credits. While I tutor many subjects, math and science are easily my favorites. I have always enjoyed tutoring others because it allows me to contribute to one's success. Since the beginning of middle school, I've worked with students from sixth grade to college. I enjoy teaching math, but I am also experienced in SAT/ACT preparation, chemistry, biology, physics, mandarin Chinese, grammar, and writing. Practice is the key to excel in any subject, especially math and science. More importantly, academics require one to think logically and to enjoy the solving process. In my free time, I am a part-time magician creating memorable entertainment for all ages and events. I truly enjoy this hobby, which has trained me in audience-influence and social-networking. I also exercise daily, play the piano, and listen to many genres of music.

I have been tutoring students for 6 years, and I have enjoyed each moment of it! It's truly fulfilling when you see your students understand a certain subject and I hope to be a part of their academic achievements. I am an experienced tutor in math and science subjects, and I hope to share my passion for the STEM fields with someone else. As a computer science and operations research major, I hope to be able to show the real life applications of math and science problems through tutoring.

From a young age, it was obvious that math is my strongest subject. I've always enjoyed the subject, and excelled in each of my math courses at Tonganoxie High School and at Washington University in St. Louis. I finished homework assignments quickly and accurately, and was frequently asked by my peers to help them with theirs. After performing well in Calculus II, the university offered me a position as a tutor for that class. During my two years as a Calculus II tutor, I deepened my passion for mathematics, and honed valuable teaching skills. I fine-tuned my understanding of the course material, while helping students improve their own as well. In 2015, I was fortunate enough to receive the Mentor of the Year Award from the university, an award voted on by the students that I tutored. I very much enjoyed my time as a Calculus II tutor at Washington University in St. Louis, and was sad to see my work come to an end due to graduation. This summer, I am excited for the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for math with the students of Varsity Tutors. My tutoring style is centered around the development of organizational skills. I firmly believe that in order to succeed in math, it is important to have organized thoughts. In my sessions, I will present material to students in an organized manner, and will make sure that they are able to translate this organized thought process to their math homework and exams. It is my goal to ensure that all of my students understand the basics, and are able to apply the basics to more advanced problems.

I'm 24 years young and I currently works in Taxation at Cherry Bekaert and I'm finishing my bachelors in accounting this December. I've been in the business of education since I was in 6th grade and finally started getting paid for it nearly 3 years ago. I'm super excited to be getting the chance to work with as many of you as I can and I can't wait to make a difference in your life!

Hey there! My name is Nathaniel, and I graduated from UT Austin in 2016 with degrees in Biochemistry and Psychology. I've had over 8 years of tutoring experience in different areas, primarily in mathematics and the natural sciences. I began tutoring my mom's friend's children in algebra 1, algebra 2, and geometry while still in middle school. This is the point at which I realized the reward in helping others learn, inciting my passion for tutoring. I went on to continue assisting classmates in high school, ultimately tutoring around a dozen different students while in college. In fact, I even served as a teaching assistant my junior year, helping grade assignments. In my free time, I like to play sports, lift weights, and volunteer. I ultimately plan on attending medical school, aiming for admission in 2018. I'm open to many different physician specialties, but have found psychiatry, neurosurgery, and orthopedics the most interesting so far. Other fun facts about me are that I've been skydiving 25 times (certified), biked from Austin, Texas to Anchorage Alaska to raise money and awareness for cancer research as part of the UT organization Texas 4000, and worked at a haunted house this past October. My teaching approach is different from others in that I do not wish to instruct students as if they were in a class, but by putting it in terms that would resonate most with them. Thus, I strive to not only further your children's insight in a given subject area, but to also allow them to actually appreciate different subjects and how they relate to the world around them. I look forward to working with your child, and will hopefully hear from you soon!

I graduated from University of California, San Diego and I grew up in China. I am really addicted in Mathematics and have a lot of tutoring experience to share. I worked as a math tutor math learning center for years. I have helped students from 6 years old to 60 years old. I have helped student's grades change significantly from failing to an A. The secret is that one can never succeed in math without practice.Badminton and Piano are two of my best friends. I learned piano from the age of 3 and I can play by ear now. I was also professionally trained badminton during my high school and achieved 2nd level national athlete in China. However, the characteristic that makes me special is my experience. I left home and came to California without a penny in my pocket. I have worked from a dishwasher to math tutor, from cashier to data analyst. While I am doing the hard work as a minimum wage worker, there has been a voice telling me -- Michael, you will not end up with that, you must study as hard as you can to earn a better life. I successfully survived in California, graduated from college and I am currently working as Actuarial Analyst. What I have learned from my story is that we must cherish every opportunity to study. So, if you are interested in a polite Chinese guy with an excellent mathematical foundation, with a lot of interests, and a young man who is self-supported as a first generation immigrant who had faced and overcame difficulties, please kindly contact me.I will try my best to help you succeed in Math and won't give up.
