Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Karianne in Sunrise Manor, NV
Today we worked on grammar, specifically prepositions and prepositional phrases and when they act like adjectives versus when they act like adverbs. We went over several worksheets, correcting mistakes or redoing activities. He also did a vocabulary sheet the student needs to turn in by Monday for extra credit. I suggested to the parent that she should have him work on a few more prepositional phrase worksheets to really cement the material.

The student is doing well with his work. Now that he's starting to climb out of the hole he dug, his disposition towards his work has greatly improved. From what hearing from student and parent, this semester will be better than last.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Rose Ann in Sunrise Manor, NV
Today, the student and I went over algebra I concepts for his Math assessment exam. He was able to recall that x was the dependent variable, and that y was the independent variable, but he did not actually know the conceptual difference. Once we went over this, he seemed to understand functions a lot more, especially when I used a video game analogy. He was very receptive to corrections and let me know when he was confused. I think he does quite well with one on one teaching, where he is definitely missing concepts in class where he admits getting "distracted." I will send him some practice so he can utilize the techniques we went over, such as plugging in or drawing the graph.

Today we studied for his vocabulary quiz. I made sure that we went over the words both ways, knowing the word and the definition. We also discussed his upcoming project and what he needs to do for that. We chose the 10 writing prompts and I emphasized that they needed to be written by Monday. I suggested he write two a day. We also went over his most recent progress reports.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Thomas in Sunrise Manor, NV
The student and I worked through setting up a paper and looking through his grades for a mid-quarter review. There are areas in which he needs to improve in order to make sure he maintains (or, better yet, raises) his 3.26 GPA from last semester. There is no reason why he should not be on the honor roll this semester. I'm looking forward to working hard in the last month of the semester to help set him up for future success.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Zachary in Sunrise Manor, NV
The student had a social studies quiz and a math quiz that we studied for. He was able to name the social studies terms and definitions with no problem and should be fine on the test. We did have to put in a little more effort and work for preparing for math. When he solves his problems, he needs to just slow down and double check his work. This is the last grading period of the year and a chance to finish on a strong note.
