This session was spent discussing a range of matters relating to the college admission process, including the differences between the SAT and ACT exam, the advantages and disadvantages of the community college vs. the four-year university track, appropriate course scheduling and career planning, the student's recent coursework in History and English class, and a problem set sampled from the Reading section of the SAT (which the student completed with ease). We concluded the session with a joint consideration of the legalistic and philosophical justifications for political policies of appeasement, which prepared the student for an upcoming discussion in History class on the beginnings of World War II.

Today, the student and I reviewed for his biology exam. Overall, he did very well! I did talk to him a little. I feel that he shows his knowledge of the material when we study, but that sometimes that doesn't project on his exam grades. I gave him some tips on concentration, which he will hopefully use to demonstrate the full potential of his knowledge,

The student worked through his history homework packet, which covered the purpose, struggles, and legacy of different populations of those traveling west during the 1850s. He has a strong understanding of these different populations and their various drives and troubles. This homework also helped him develop his own writing style and sentence structure!

We went over this week's workload. The student had previously missed 3 math homework assignments and we wanted to ensure she was turning them in. She worked on science homework and submitted it. I also explained the best way to take notes and the most efficient way to rely on those notes when it comes time to study. She is showing improvement with regards to her study habits; however, we still have a ways to go.

We talked more about structuring the student's study guides as we go along to keep it from being a last minute thing. We looked at lit charts to help keep him up to speed on what's being read in English.

The student and I worked on his upcoming question and answer paper for his literature class. Then we worked on planning a comprehensive schedule for the next two weeks leading up to his midterm finals. We also focused on good reading and study habits for retention.
