Studying for the Bar exams might seem like a daunting prospect, but Varsity Tutors can help you develop the necessary skills and confidence in our Portland Bar exam course. Once you successfully pass the Bar exams, you'll have a valuable accreditation under your belt. With that said, specific states will require different variations of the Bar exam. You might also need to fulfill additional requirements to practice law as a professional in your state. But while the Bar is often just one step in the process of becoming a fully licensed lawyer, it's a crucial one. You'll need to study effectively if you want to reach for your full potential.
The various Bar exams all assess your professional abilities as a lawyer, but they do so in different ways. It's important to choose a study resource that prepares you for the specific Bar exam you're taking, rather than simply providing you with a generalized overview of legal concepts. A prep course is an excellent way to do this. Perhaps you're approaching the Bar exams with a legal education from a respected institution such as the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College. While this level of education definitely helps as you prepare for the Bar exam, a prep course could provide you with specific skills and strategies aimed at the exact hurdles you'll need to overcome on the various exams.
What Might I Learn With A Portland Bar Exam Course?
The State of Oregon assesses candidates with the MPRE, MBE, the MEE, and the MPT. The state has also adopted the UBE, or Uniform Bar Exam.
The MPRE is a multiple choice exam with a total of 60 questions. You'll have two hours to complete the exam, and questions focus on the laws governing the conduct of lawyers and judges. The MBE is another multiple choice Bar exam, but with 200 questions and a time limit of 6 hours. You'll need to answer questions based on fundamental legal concepts.
In contrast, the MEE focuses on essay questions. You'll tackle six of these questions, and each one has a time limit of thirty minutes. You'll need to clearly communicate your understanding of a wide range of topics, including civil procedure, constitutional law, contracts, and many others. The MPT is similar but focuses on more realistic written tasks that a lawyer might carry over the course of their career. These tasks could include drawing up a will, writing a memorandum to an attorney, making a contract provision, and other similar situations. You'll have 3 hours to complete two of these tasks.
As you can see, there are many different Bar exams you might face, and each one requires its own unique approach. A Portland Bar exam course can help you adequately prepare, no matter which exam you're going to take. Instructors can help you review the topics that might appear on your upcoming exam, and they might also help you develop effective strategies. These strategies might include answering multiple choice questions in an effective, organized way, or planning out your essays before writing them.
