I'm Tommy, I just graduated from Notre Dame with a degree in computer science.My teaching style is simple and relaxed, putting an emphasis on what students know already and building from there. The biggest teaching mistake I believe exists is starting from a concept that a student doesn't understand and unknowingly confusing them more. My goal is to get students excited about what they're learning and constantly remind them of the "why": how it all matters in the real world.

I am a senior Bioengineering student at the University of Maryland, College Park. I have very recent experience with taking courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Differential Equations and Software Programs like MATLAB and Python. For the past 3 years, I have been a tutor for my school's Bioengineering Honor's Society (AEMB), where I tutored underclassmen in courses very similar to AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics I, AP Calculus BC and many more. Aside from my STEM knowledge and experience, I am interested in US History and I love reading. Outside of academics, I enjoy playing basketball, playing video games, and watching football and baseball.

I am a graduate of the New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I received my self-designed Bachelor of Arts in Play, Performance, and the Creative Process with a focus on theater, music, and philosophy. Since graduation, I have set up camp in Brooklyn, NY where I pursue my creative interests as well as work part time as a stagehand and as a tutor. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, literature, and writing. I have the most fun working with students on their writing because I feel that even the most academic paper is still an opportunity to be creative if even in a small sense. In this way, I get a sense of who my students are as people through their writing. My tutoring approach is playful, yet patient and even-handed. I try my best to create an atmosphere where students are uninhibited and unafraid to take a risk or be wrong because so much of school and life is about learning from mistakes and being ashamed bears no fruit this regard. Personally, I like to spend my free time playing my guitar, cooking, watching TV, or playing the occasional video game.

I am a certified teacher currently teaching at a public high school. My certifications include mathematics and computer science. My ability to communicate and instill a growth mindset make me a superior teacher.

In 2015, I graduated from Columbia College with a BA in Comedy Writing and Performance. However, I have a long and extensive background in English. I started tutoring all elementary subjects while still in high school. I edited essays and short stories for my peers and some graduates while in college. I also took many writing courses while there. My great grandmother, grandmother, and mother used to be English teachers, so it seems to be in my blood! I have a passion for grammar, as well as performance. I currently work as an instructor at Chicago Performing Arts and as Lead Educator for Right at School. Teaching is so rewarding. I love being able to watch students learn and grow. It is important for me to relate to my students and make learning fun. I don't think people learn when they're intimidated or bored, so finding ways to connect and make the materials interesting are important steps in my process. I encourage questions and creativity. I have done early reading intervention tutoring with K-2 students in public schools. I have also taught science and social science to elementary and middle school. In college, I was a writing tutor for other college students, helping them with their writing in all subjects. I am most passionate about tutoring writing and reading, but would love to teach any elementary or middle school topic as well.I am passionate about tutoring because I love working with students and helping them feel more confident in achieving their academic goals.

I recently graduated from the University of South Carolina's Honors College and earned a BA in Criminal Justice and a BS in Mathematics. I will be going back to USC in August to get my Master's of Teaching in Secondary Education - Mathematics. I absolutely love tutoring and teaching. Math is a hard subject and it is vital to have someone there who cares about you and helps you achieve your academic goals. I have been tutoring for the past two years both at tutoring firm and freelance work. Specifically, I have been working with two middle school boys for two years covering pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. At my tutoring firm, I have tutored every age and subject from fifth grade to 12th grade calculus, as well as ACT and SAT test prep. I primarily enjoy tutoring Algebra since it is so necessary for a strong mathematical foundation. I also enjoy tutoring geometry and AP Calculus.

I graduated from Ohio Northern University with a Doctor of Pharmacy and an Applied Statistics Minor. After graduation, I completed a Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency at Parkview Health, where I also earned a teaching certificate through the Indiana Pharmacy Resident Teaching Certificate Program. I am very passionate about teaching, mentoring, precepting, and tutoring students! My favorite subjects to tutor are the NAPLEX and other pharmacy related topics. I have experience in didactic teaching, small group teaching, and experiential teaching in the pharmacy curriculum. I enjoy finding ways to engage learners through a variety of methods, including asking questions, presenting concepts through a discussion format, creating situations to engage critical thinking skills, and using analogies. My favorite moment is when I see my students' eyes light up when they make a connection and understand! I enjoy getting to know students and their learning styles to best engage them and help them to grow.
