I am a third year Mathematics Major in The University Of Texas at Austin. I ran a free prep class for the AP Calculus AB and the AP Calculus BC test in my public library in New Jersey. I ran the class for two years and enjoyed teaching my students the essentials needed for these two tests. As the head teacher I had a lot of responsibilities such as making mock tests, making sure every student understood all the content, Organizing each class day every week, and getting assistant teachers to help me out for free. I know that I am a good teacher because every student I ever taught either received a 4 or a 5 on either test.

As the first academic in my entire, extended family, I was a completely lost college junior, had no plan, no experience, no help and also no clue where to find help. Out of luck, help found me one day and that changed everything. I graduated with honors and moved on to get my PhD. Two decades later, I am still very grateful and helping struggling students with Varsity Tutors is my way to pay it forward. I also had the unique privilege of teaching English as a second language in the Skaramagas refugee camp, to children, teens, and adults seeking asylum from Kurdistan, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran.I also have five years of experience teaching Hebrew as a second language, and have taught all levels of Hebrew in public high schools, two-month-long language immersion programs, as well as synagogues. I've found that when learning a second language, the best way to learn is through Comprehensible Input, which means jumping into speaking the language as much as possible through using high frequency words and phrases. I am also a professional actor in Chicago, and while earning my BFA in Theatre, I studied script analysis, design, performance and theatre history. I absolutely love to teach Shakespeare, and I have years of experience performing and bringing his texts to life in an understandable and entertaining way, so let's dive right in!In my spare time, I love playing guitar and mandolin, hiking, biking, and baking sourdough bread. To this day, I credit many of my biggest academic achievements to the tutors that have helped me along my journey. My experience working with students range from being a college instructor to a youth counselor. All roles have been rewarding especially as an elementary and high school principal. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wright State University and my Masters of Science in Teaching degree from the University of Dayton. I am a licensed elementary and middle school teacher, a licensed Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade principal and a licensed school Superintendent. I love public speaking, working out, cooking and writing in my journal daily.I am passionate about tutoring students because I once had a tutor. Having a tutor allowed me to feel motivated, encouraged and inspired! My life changed from feeling defeated to victorious! This was due to my tutor believing that I could, so I did! Now I am able to give that same energy back to students I work with. I will be enrolling at the University of Chicago Law School in the Fall of 2014 with the goal of obtaining my JD degree and preparing for a career as a lawyer. I have tutored students of many age groups, from elementary school students in areas of math and English, to undergraduate students in economics, to college graduates preparing to take the LSAT. Due to my own recent experience in test preparation, I am especially passionate about teaching the LSAT. Unlike many graduate-level standardized tests, the LSAT contains puzzle games and logical elements that make test preparation a fun challenge. My philosophy as an instructor is to consider each student's goals and preferred pathways to learning, and to then work jointly with the student to prepare a list of goals along with a study plan geared to accomplish those goals. There is no "one size fits all" approach to learning, so I attempt to accommodate each student as an individual. I try to keep lessons light, fun, and paced to suit the student's preferred speed. When I am not working with students, I enjoy long distance running, hiking, attending concerts and stand-up comedy shows, traveling, and taking my dog for long walks. She also very much enjoys the walks.

I started as a swim coach and swim lesson teacher seven years ago and since then have tutored children and adults from the ages of 9 years old to 20 years old. Prior to my teaching career, I spent a portion of my career managing several of my own business entities in the financial industry. My teaching specialties are mathematics and business. The business section includes accounting, finance, economics, marketing and business operations to name a few. My favorite subjects are business related due to the ability when teaching to showcase the material against past and present situations. My most important attribute mentioned by my students is how patient I am with them. My teaching philosophy is grounded in two very important notions; learning requires the student to be active in the process and that the teacher must place the information presented into real-world context. It is my responsibility to lead my students to the path of applying learned information to relevant situations. My interests outside of my teaching include golf, scuba diving, hiking, personal fitness and vintage baseball.

I am a graduate of Temple University with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. While at Temple I was Captain of the lacrosse team and graduated Summa Cum Laude before applying to medical school. I am currently a fourth-year medical student at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. My academic interests span the gambit ranging from engineering concepts to medical innovation, in particular those with an orthopedic focus. I have an extensive history of tutoring students at the middle/high school, college, and graduate school levels, including entrance/board exams such as the SAT, ACT, MCAT, and USMLE examinations. I am a firm believer that learning should be fun, enjoyable, and rewarding. I have found success tutoring students when I connect the concepts to everyday experiences and thoughts.
