Varsity Tutors can get you set up for comprehensive and expert-led Los Angeles LSAT prep. If you're planning on applying to an area law school such as the UCLA School of Law or Loyola Law School, you may be wondering how you can enhance your review for the LSAT. The Law School Admissions Test, or LSAT, serves as a thorough measurement of the skills necessary for law school. All ABA-accredited law schools and Canadian common-law law schools accept this exam. Your score on this exam can set you apart from others during the admissions process, so it's critical to perform to the best of your abilities.
The LSAT consists of five sections that cover a broad range of skills. For many students, it can be a significant challenge on the road to law school. If you're considering getting some extra guidance as you review for the LSAT, you may benefit from a Los Angeles LSAT prep class or by studying with a private instructor. Varsity Tutors can help you figure out which resource is best for you.
What can I review with Los Angeles LSAT prep?
The LSAT is administered at testing centers on digital tablets. These tables come with a timer, five-minute warnings, the ability to flag questions you may want to revisit, and highlighting features. The five sections of this exam are the Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, two Logical Reasoning sections, and Writing. Each section is timed for 35 minutes and aims to assess many different concepts and skills. Let's look at the expectations of each section of this exam.
The Reading Comprehension section assesses your ability to understand long and complex texts that you can expect to encounter in law school. This section presents four sets of questions related to a selection of reading material. The questions here will focus on your ability to understand meaning based on context, organization and structure, analogies, the impact of a claim, and other characteristics of the text.
There are several skills assessed by the Analytical Reasoning section of the LSAT. You will need to demonstrate your ability to understand the structure of a relationship, infer truth based on information, recognize logically equivalent statements, and reason with conditional statements. These are critical skills for a law student to have in order to successfully solve legal problems.
The Logical Reasoning sections focus on your ability to use reason to analyze an argument. Logical Reasoning questions ask you to examine and evaluate arguments from a broad range of sources, such as newspapers and advertisements. You will need to be able to identify flaws in an argument, apply rules and principles to statements, and draw reasonable conclusions.
The Writing section allows you to demonstrate your communication, reasoning, and language skills to law schools. This section is not scored because there isn't a "right" or "wrong" response. You will be presented with a decision-based problem with two courses of actions or positions. Pick a side and defend it in your sample. You will have up to one year after taking the rest of the LSAT to complete this section at a testing center.
What types of Los Angeles LSAT prep are available?
Varsity Tutors understands that different students have differing needs. There are two major categories when it comes to preparing for the LSAT: a private tutor and a prep course. We can get you set up with both. There are different benefits for each, and it isn't uncommon for prospective law school students to use a combination of the two. Let's explore the benefits of each.
If you are interested in an LSAT prep course, we can sign you up for interactive online instruction that is akin to a regular classroom. With new sessions starting weekly, you don't have to worry about missing the deadline to join. You can choose between taking a two- or four-week course. Once you're signed up for a Los Angeles LSAT course, you can attend live review sessions from wherever you learn best.
Classes are led by an expert instructor who has been thoroughly vetted for their skills and knowledge. Your class can engage in group discussions and activities that focus on building the skills you'll need on the LSAT. In a collaborative environment, you and your peers can benefit from improvement retention, which can allow you to feel more confident and prepared on the day of the exam. Your instructor can explore different strategies that can help you get the most out of your time on the test, such as answer elimination to cut down on your answer choices. If you have trouble with a skill or concept, you can work with your instructor one on one.
Some students benefit more from the undivided attention offered by a Los Angeles LSAT tutor. A personal instructor can take a completely customized approach to your test prep sessions. They can assess your existing skills, areas of opportunity, LSAT goals, learning personality, and other qualities to create a study plan that revolves around you. Your private mentor can skip over the portions of the exam that you feel confident about. For instance, perhaps you are more concerned about the Logical Reasoning sections than the others. Your instructor can work with you to build your analysis, evaluation, inference, and logic skills through sample problems and other activities. They can even demonstrate strategies for the exam, such as tricks that can help you quickly identify similarities and differences between two lines of reasoning. Whatever topic you'd like help reviewing, a personal instructor can help you as you reach for your goals.
