Students will always remember more about how you treat them than what they learn from you. My goal as a tutor/teacher is to create a learning environment where students can thrive and become the best they are able to be with me guiding them.

Detroit, Michigan is my birthplace and current residence. Before relocating back home in June 2008, I lived in Chicago, Illinois for ten years. My ties to "Chi-town" are abundant, so I return often to teach, freelance, and socialize. My philosophy to teaching has been cultivated through the student-centered approach to learning. The first goal is to create a positive learning environment that will engage our classroom. Thereafter, insight is enhanced by instituting comprehensive instruction, and in-depth dialogue. Last, I believe that encouraging scholarly growth equates to supporting the maturation of critical thinking. Such approach should assist in developing individual scholarly voices, ultimately refined through class discussions, assignments, and personal experience.Professionally, I am a Counselor dedicated to hospice care, bereavement counseling, and leading psycho-educational groups. One of my assignments is to conduct group counseling and instruct a financial accountability curriculum to first-time bad check offenders. This program allows me to work with men and women in three Midwest states: Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. In 8 years, and 119 classes, I have reached 2,944 people. I love my work!!While I accept my call to serve others going through financial, life, or death transition; there is a deeper passion to teach. Through online and classroom environments, my courses include: Philosophy of Ethics, Ethical Issues in Human Service Organizations, Technologies in Human Service Organizations, The Helping Process & Self-Care, and Principles of Health & Wellness. In addition, I am a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, Independent First Aid/CPR Instructor and Family Caregiving Leader through the Southeastern Michigan Red Cross.Living gives me great joy; especially when time is spent with my 2 nephews, 1 niece, and 2 cats (Syren & Kooper). Little people and animals allow me to breathe, and maintain a balanced - purpose driven perspective on life. Away from family, I am working out: Kangoo Jumping, and weather permitting, riding my Trikke.Remember to KISS (Keep It Simple Scholar)...

As the youngest of three boys, being raised by a Single Mom puts a certain perspective on the world. We resided in Arlington, an area within Jacksonville, FL, which at the time had the highest violent crime rate in the state. Our normal was quite different from others. Not just socioeconomically, but in a broader more systemic sense. Our middle brother, Jeremy, is considered the "Lucky" one: he is a tattoo artist. Born with a natural gift that lifted him from our neighborhood to a better life. The oldest, Jason, is a chef. A learned craft that he sacrificed many years in perfecting.Every parents dream is for their child to succeed in life. I am quite sure our mother hoped for the same. A more realistic aspiration was for us to simply come home safely from school and not be a footnote on the evening news. This was our neighborhood, a place in constant chaos. Fortunately, our mother's perseverance and adaptability got us away from the neighborhood. I learned from a very young age, that I wanted more than this life, I wanted better for myself. In the beginning sports were my tool to escape poverty. I earned a scholarship to Jacksonville University as a Quarterback/Pitcher. College wasn't without its struggle: a shoulder repair as a freshman nearly overtook my career, but focus and determination allowed me to continue to play and succeed, earning the first championship in Jacksonville University football history. I continued to pursue sports, professionally, but stopped once I learned I would be a father to my son, Alexander. He is currently five and starting school. I remember learning the news of Alexander's impending arrival and thinking "I have five to six years to get a career together, to support my family". I immediately gave up the tool that took me away from the neighborhood, enrolled in Barry University; and I received my MSc in Biomedical Sciences sixteen months later, while raising my son.All opportunities are met with expectations and their corresponding adjustments, and AUC was no exception. The key difference that set me apart from many of my colleagues was family: I am a father first. Family is extremely valuable to me, it's the one thing we felt could not be taken away from us. Family is a constant motivator that helps drive us to a greater future. Our mother and our son, representations of the past and future, are powerful reminders of where we have came from and where we intend to go.My 3rd year of medical school was spent abroad in the UK. My time in the UK molded more than my medical knowledge, it shaped my view on the role of medicine in our society. There I was introduced to the field of Interventional Radiology. The challenge of interpreting scans combined with performing elegant procedures, all while treating the patient from beginning to end was an approach to medicine that I desired."The definition of an educated person is the realization of how ignorant one is to the world." Socrates' advocacy for humble learning is an ideology for us all to continue into the future. We can have a new normal. I look forward to meeting you.

I am a graduate of Virginia Tech University. I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Master of Arts in Education. While at Tech I worked a student-athlete tutor for a variety of math classes. After graduation I worked for 5 years teaching middle and high school mathematics in both Virginia and Ohio. My favorite subject to tutor are Algebra I and Algebra II. I feel like both classes make up the foundation of mathematics and over the years I have developed a variety of different teaching methods to help students who struggling with the different topics. I would describe myself as problem solver, I like to figure out not only how student is struggling but more importantly why are they struggling? Where do the keep making their mistakes and why. Outside of tutoring I have been a stay-at-home father for the past 7 years raising my two wonderful daughters. I enjoy sports, working out, and getting outside as much as possible.

I am a current Dietetics student, Dietitian Education Program intern, and 4+1 student pursuing a Master's of Adult Education. So far at Buffalo state, I have become the treasurer of both the Nutrition Club and the Rotaract Club. I also earned an award this Spring for my 300 community service hours. In my early twenties, I started a business painting cars out of the back of my SUV. I feel it is a great outlet to be creative and work independently but I crave the mental stimulation of academia and the social aspect of tutoring. I enjoy watching students grow as they become more confident in their knowledge through the implementation of good habits. Sometimes all we really need is an outside perspective to show us the best way to do something or to inspire us to push harder. I aim to be that person. In my spare time, I can be found researching the latest nutrition information, exploring my city and nature, or enjoying macro photography (usually of delicious homemade dishes).

I am a recent graduate from Northland College in Wisconsin and have moved back to my hometown of Edmonds where I intend to pursue a career in teaching. I am an EWHS class of 2015 alum and I participated in both IB and Running Start courses during my time as a student in Edmonds. My love for my chemistry, biology, and mathematics courses throughout high school influenced me to pursue a Bachelors of Science at Northland College. In December 2018, I graduated early from Northland with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Biology with a minor in physics. Also while in college, I began working as a research assistant gaining practical experience in the laboratory and as a tutor for chemistry, biology, and math. During my time as a tutor, I realized how much I enjoyed helping students not only learn about the sciences but begin to think that they are fascinating and cool subjects. My passion for helping others learn and enjoy math and science has driven me to pursue a career in education where I can help students not only exceed in their coursework but enjoy learning.

I attended the University of Maryland, College park, where I received my Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education. I have been teaching middle school math for the past three years including eighth grade Algebra 2, Algebra 1, as well as seventh grade Pre-Algebra. This upcoming school year I will be in a combined fourth and fifth grade classroom teaching reading, math, science, and social studies. I am available to tutor reading, writing, and math for Elementary School. I am also available to tutor in middle school math, Algebra, and Algebra 1. I love tutoring mathematics. Math has always been my favorite subject, so I like to make it fun and relatable to real life when I work with students. I believe it is important for students to discover and explore solutions when they are learning and learning should be interactive.
