Since I was a child, I have always been interested in Science and skilled in Mathematics. This eventually led to me studying Chemistry at Hope College and attaining a Bachelor of Science degree.While I was in college, I also became interested in Japan. After college graduation, I taught English in Japan for many years. During that time, I studied Teaching English as a Second Language, and attained a Master's Degree. Now I teach ESL at a school in downtown Columbus Ohio.My main experience is teaching English to people who speak other languages, but I also have experience teaching the Japanese language, and helping my children, and other children understand Math and Science. Once, I even tutored Physics, using Japanese.When I am not teaching, I enjoy running and singing. Exercise and Art strengthen the mind!

I am a graduate of Harvard University. I received my A.B. in Chemistry and Physics, with a secondary in the Comparative Study of Religion and a citation in Japanese. Over the course of my studies, I have worked in a variety of laboratories in biology, biophysics, and quantum chemistry, both in the US and Japan. Since graduation, I have studied the Japanese Tea Ceremony (/ "Chanoyu"/"Chad") intensively in Japan, living and working in a Japanese linguistic context.While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I most enjoy tutoring in Japanese, and the challenge of teaching the critical thinking required for classes in literature, history, religions, or the social sciences.My academic journey has given me a broad appreciation for interdisciplinary, and a passion for teaching and helping others come to understand the subjects they are studying, especially in a broader context. I work with my students to ensure not only that they perform well in their classes or on their exams, but also to advise them in areas of interest for writing papers/theses, and help them to tie what they are learning into the broader context of their lives. And I enjoy coming up with and researching new ways to help my students in the subject they need assistance in.I went to school at NOVA where I majored in Computer Science. I'm currently go to UMGC where I major in Computer Science & East Asian Studies.I believe that there isn't just one style to teach students. I like spending more time to get to know my students to better understand how to help them. I've worked with ESL students and collage students for English and Japanese. Through that I found out that everyone is different and have gone through different experiences. So they deserve a more personalized approach when it comes to teaching.

I've taught American, Canadian, English, Indian, German, Australian, Mexican, and so on.Teaching is one of my way to feel the joy of supporting people. I'll help you master the language and dive into Japanese culture and subculture. Once you start to think in Japanese, you will notice that your way of communication changes. English is good for business, law, and science while Japanese is more about sharing feelings. The waiters in Japan may be reluctant to serve your table, but my students prepare well to make them feel at ease and they have fantastic travel in Japan.

I graduated from Elmira College with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. During college I was a peer tutor and a reading tutor at an elementary school. After graduation I moved to Japan and gained extensive experience in teaching English as a second language. I worked with students of all ages (2-88!), in one on one lessons, small classes as well as large corporate workshops. Some of my more unique experiences included training a student for a speech contest, learning lines with a Japanese actor for a role in an American film, and developing original curriculum for classes.After 15 years in Japan I returned to the states and earned my MS in Global and International Education through Drexel University. Most recently I have worked as a para professional with Title One, Special Education and ESOL students. I am comfortable with a number of different subjects but I truly enjoy English, literature and language. My tutoring style is to be patient, flexible and focus on the needs and motivations of my students. I do my best to be prepared for each lesson and I expect my students to take responsibility for their work, too. In my personal time I enjoy trying new recipes, reading, swimming, and traveling.
