I am currently a freshman at the University of Notre Dame pursuing a degree in finance. I went to Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, WI where I served as a student tutor for two years. I especially love tutoring students in math and English and look forward to working with you!

I am a student at Duke University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with Chemistry and German minors. On campus I am involved in the Bilbo lab, which focuses on neuroimmune interactions in abnormal brain development. I am very passionate about helping others enjoy and learn about various fields in STEM.
I'm a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Science-Computing--the University's equivalent of the pre-med major, but with additional credits reserved for a few Computer Science electives. While there, tutoring was one of the main activities I was involved in, and I found it deeply fulfilling when I'd see a certain idea suddenly click for my tutees.
I am an undergraduate biochemistry major at the University of Notre Dame. Previously, I was employed at Mathnasium of Granger for two years, where I was a math instructor for all ages and math-related subjects.
I am currently a student at Dartmouth College studying Biology, with a concentration on Human Biology. I tutor many subjects, but specialize in standardized test prep and in science, particularly Biology at all levels. I am most passionate about science, it is my favorite subject because it always has a definite answer but it might not be what you expect. At Dartmouth, I am a member of the marching band, Emergency Medical Services, and the sustainability program.
I am a high school history teacher who has also worked as a teaching assistant at one of the country's top 10 colleges. I've taught ACT/SAT prep for about 4 years to students at all ends of the academic spectrum: from those working with learning disabilities/accommodations & struggling with timing to those trying to achieve perfect scores. Although I always create individualized plans, I focus on teaching every student the most effective, step-by-step way to approach each question on each section of the test. Beyond test prep, I've taught/tutored just about every academic subject through the undergraduate level. Outside the classroom, I enjoy reading about history, going to church, coaching sports (track & tennis), and spending time with my family. I really enjoy getting to know each student I teach as we work toward our goals.
I am a certified ESL teacher as well as teaching History at the local community college. Being an ESL teacher gives me the opportunity to bridge language and cultures, which is something I am passionate about. History is the perfect subject to encourage students to think critically and independently. History, whether it is personal/family or state or national or world, provides an identity and moral understanding. I find it exciting when students move beyond parroting what I say or what the readings say to draw their conclusions and back up their statements with facts. By examining the past, students learn so much more about the present, as well as develop the abilities to use logic, problem-solve, assess evidence and conflicting interpretations, and understand past examples of change. These abilities transition into working life skills as well as develop responsible public behavior no matter if they are a national or community leader, an informed voter, or an observer.
I'm Alexandra but you can call me Ally; I am a freshmen engineering major at the University of Notre Dame so I'm a huge math and science nerd.
I enjoy helping students learn more about math. It is a great feeling to see the "light bulb" turn on. I have been a math teacher and tutor for over 10 years, which includes teaching secondary, collegiate, and graduate courses. I earned a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame. I also have an M.B.A. in quantitative business analysis from Indiana University and earned my secondary mathematics teaching license/certification at Indiana Wesleyan University.
I am currently a fourth year medical student in Indianapolis. I completed my undergraduate education at Indiana University Bloomington, where I majored in Biology and Spanish. I also completed two minors in Mathematics and Chemistry. While at IU, I worked for the Department of Mathematics and Department of Spanish. I also worked as a Peer Tutor for the IU Athletics Department, tutoring in several subjects including statistics, chemistry, physics, and Spanish. I graduated from college with a 4.0, and I entered medical school shortly thereafter. Since coming to medical school, I have excelled in all of my pre-clinical coursework, and I currently rank in the Top 20% of my class. I feel very comfortable and confident tutoring other students in a variety of subjects from math and science to Spanish. I like to think that the same techniques I have used to excel in all phases of my education can be easily adapted to other students and help you achieve your academic goals, just as I have!
I am currently a Junior at Washington University in St. Louis, studying computer science and math. I hope to one day be a software engineer. I love working with other people and want to help others succeed in my areas of expertise.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects students across East Chicago's 10 schools and 3 school districts with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a school in the East Chicago, River Forest, or North Township school districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands local curriculum standards and academic expectations.
Indiana has specific learning standards across math, English language arts, science, and social studies that East Chicago schools follow. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction helps students master these standards at their own pace, filling knowledge gaps that might be harder to address in larger classroom settings with the district's 13.8:1 student-teacher ratio.
Students in East Chicago most commonly seek help with math (especially algebra and geometry), English language arts, and standardized test preparation for ILEARN and ISTEP+. We also work with students on reading comprehension, writing skills, and science courses like biology and chemistry as they progress through middle and high school.
During the initial session, the tutor will assess your student's current understanding of the subject, identify specific areas where they're struggling, and learn about their learning style and goals. This personalized approach helps create a targeted plan that addresses your student's unique needs rather than a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
Many students see noticeable improvement within 4-6 weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline varies based on the subject, the student's starting point, and how frequently they meet with their tutor. Regular practice and reinforcement between sessions accelerate progress, so we encourage students to apply what they learn in their actual coursework and assignments.
Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have strong subject knowledge and teaching experience. Tutors are vetted professionals who understand how to explain complex concepts clearly and adapt their teaching to match each student's learning style and pace.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. We work with families in East Chicago to create flexible tutoring schedules that fit your budget and your student's school calendar—whether that's weekly sessions, intensive test prep, or support during challenging units.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows a tutor to slow down, reteach concepts, and build confidence in ways that larger classroom settings sometimes can't. By working one-on-one, tutors can identify exactly where your student's understanding breaks down and fill those gaps before they compound into bigger academic challenges.
