Varsity Tutors can assist you in finding your child an experienced history tutor in Long Island, New York. Your child can meet with their tutor online or in person at a place and time of your choosing.

Personal Long Island, New York, history tutors can help your child understand the importance of artifacts and archives, or any area they may be struggling with in this subject. They can cover these topics in a one-on-one environment that allows your child to feel comfortable asking a multitude of questions. This individualized structure also allows your child's personal learning needs to be at the center of each session, unlike in a classroom filled with students. Your child can also control the pace at which information is covered with their tutor. They may require more time than others in their class to process and retain information being taught and, because of this, begin to fall behind in class. Their tutor can slow things down and meticulously cover each topic with your student. Memorizing dates and names can take time and practice, and that is perfectly fine with the tutor. Again, their learning needs are the focus of the lessons.

History Tutoring review by Samantha in Long Island, NY
The student and I went over the practice test for Unit 6. She has a clear understanding of the big picture ideas and how everything is tied in together. She needs to work on details for the questions. In our next session we will go over those issues and the FRQs.

History Tutoring review by Whitney in Long Island, NY
The student began a new unit in human geography today on population and migration. We reviewed the information that she discussed in class (birth rate, death rate, population explosion) and gave examples of each. We also talked about population graphs and what contributes to lines on the graph. The student began to make flashcards for the key terms that we covered, focusing on the formulas used to make/interpret population graphs. We spent a lot of time talking about Thomas Malthus and his theory of population growth and it's long-term implications. The student is starting this unit off strong!

History Tutoring review by Joseph in Long Island, NY
Today I helped the student review for her upcoming test on population and migration. We went over the review sheet her teacher assigned for homework using her notes and the textbook. She asked great questions and told me exactly what she needed practice with. The student did an excellent job discussing variables in demographics and quickly understood the material. With extra in-class review, I believe she should do very well on her test on Tuesday.

History Tutoring review by Jessie in Long Island, NY
During this session, student one and I prepared for his history final next Thursday. He and I then made a study plan for his test and wrote out, day by day, what he needs to accomplish. For Wednesday he is to get organized. He needs to compile all of his tests, notes, handouts, worksheets, and PowerPoints from each chapter he has studied, and then organize all his chapter 27 handouts with his chapter 27 quiz and test and so on. He then needs to study a chapter or two a day along with his study guide, handouts, and PowerPoints. We concluded our session studying his study guide. We practiced using the index and glossary and reread every section pertaining to the important key terms listed on his study guide. During this session, student two and I also prepared for his history final. He demonstrated better organization and planning by bringing home his study guide. We made his study plan more accelerated. He and I then worked on completing his study guide. We discussed the importance of being as specific and detailed as possible when preparing for a test. Whenever researching a historical figure or key term, we practiced using the index and then read thoroughly about the historical figure or key term. By the end of our session, he did a great job finding important information from his textbook on his own in order to answer his study guide questions, and his responses were detailed and informed.

We also went over several sample multiple choice questions to help him become better at answering them on tests. We also began to go over DBQ questions and how to properly answer them.
