I am a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on American and British literature and a history minor. Since graduation, I have worked in commercial real estate, human resources, corporate training, and published a variety of articles and stories. I've led workshops on writing and musical studies and love to be involved in the community. I am very passionate about English, literature, and history. I've found helping struggling students with their English studies and writing assignments to be incredibly fulfilling; and nothing makes me happier than seeing students learn, grow, and succeed. I firmly believe tutoring makes me a better thinker and writer; and I learn just as much from the students as they do from me. Learning is a lifetime process and has no end. When I'm not tutoring, my interests include guitar, piano, sports, working out, and the outdoors.

I received my BA in Liberal Studies from Westfield State University in 1997 and my 2nd BA in Philosophy from D'Youville College in 2003. As a Special Needs Teacher I plan meaningful lessons based on students' goals, objectives, grade level benchmarks, and common core objectives. I try to cater to the different learning styles of my students. I am also Orton Gillingham trained and believe that every student can succeed with hard work and effort.

I am a graduate of the Schreyer Honors College at the Pennsylvania State University. I received my B.A. in English with a minor in Spanish. Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s degree in Comparative Literature at The CUNY Graduate Center with a language focus on Spanish texts and an interest in the American Romantic Movement. I have always had a strong interest in English grammar and composition, and I have tutored that subject area extensively both during my undergraduate studies and at present. My strength is SAT test prep, both Verbal and Writing, as well as Critical Reading and Composition practice. Strong language skills are critical for a student’s success and advancement every step of the way, from elementary school to future growth in the workplace. During tutoring sessions, my goal is to help my students gain not only the skill sets necessary to read critically and write competently, but also to gain a love of reading that will last a lifetime. I try to challenge myself every day to do one thing that pushes me out of my comfort zone, whether it be going for a long run or bike ride to a new part of the city, speaking up in class with a question, or embracing a public speaking opportunity. I have found that when I take a small step towards meeting a challenge, then the next time a big, menacing problem comes around, it just does not seem so bad.

I attended Johns Hopkins University, and am working toward a degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. I have been tutoring since I was in high school, where I volunteered to help students struggling in math. In the past, I also taught at a summer music camp, volunteered to lead writing workshops in a rehab center, and worked at a math tutoring business. My personal philosophy toward learning is that one’s education should be well balanced. In my free time I like to read, work on visual art, and play instruments. I am most passionate about math though, because it can be related to any subject, and because the skills that are developed through mathematical thinking can help create success in other areas. I try to use multiple approaches while teaching, and present ideas as visually and tangibly as possible. One of the dangers of learning math is that students memorize the method for solving a problem but do not realize the underlying concepts. I do my best to ensure that students recognize the broader concepts. Because math builds on itself, it is also very important to look at past topics that relate to students’ current lessons. There is not always time for teachers do this in a classroom setting. Often you’ll find that a student’s struggles come from missing previous skills that are assumed as their lessons advance. My ultimate goal is to help students build their confidence with math and to set them up for success in their future studies, whether those studies are directly or indirectly related.

I have a Masters in French from Middlebury College and spent a year studying in Paris. My language learning background is in full immersion, meaning I've spent several weeks speaking only French, even to native English speakers. My interests include grammar, literature and pronunciation.

I am a graduate of the University of Kansas. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and in Germanic Languages and Literature. I absolutely love to travel and experience different cultures! After graduating from KU in 2013, I spent a year in Northeastern Germany working as an au pair. I am most passionate about and have the most experience with German and English as a Second Language, however I am also very interested in History. That said, I am excited for all of the challenges that come with tutoring, and I am determined to do my very best to make your learning experience as enjoyable and worthwhile as possible!
