I attained a BS in Biology at Arizona State University. My Professional Educators License certifies me to instruct grades 6-12, with additional endorsements in biological, general, and physical science.Post graduation I joined Teach for America and taught 8th grade science, high school biology, and earth space science in Chicago for two years. For each of these courses I personally designed all curriculum, lesson plans, labs and assessments. Additionally I have instructed a summer school session for Advanced Algebra.I tutor K-8 all subjects, K-12 English/reading/writing, my favorites being general science, ACT Science, and Biology (honors and AP included). I love that science explains how the world around us worksfrom why the sky is blue, to why we resemble our parents.I enjoy working with all types of studentswhether they do not particularly enjoy the subject, or are driven from the get go. My teaching style is creative, engaging, and goal oriented. I like to get to know my students and their ambitions, and work with them where they are at to achieve mastery.Other than science, I am an avid CrossFit athlete, and competed on a regional team. I am also a Level 2 Certified CrossFit Coach and have coached Track and FitClub. I also enjoy skiing, hiking, kayaking and rafting. On the artsy side of things I have been doing chalk pastels, painting, and crafting since I was a child.

My philosophy of education is that every child should have the right to learn and get a quality education. Every child that I tutor should feel comfortable and safe. Our lessons time is in an environment full of nurturing and enriching. Individualized instruction is an integral strategy to aid children with different learning preferences. In order to meet individual challenges, lessons are structured into learning modalities by incorporating auditory, kinesthetic, and visual techniques. I apply a variety of approaches to the learning process. I use cooperative learning strategies is equally important, Use of cooperative learning strategies, as well as guided individual instruction are all necessary to provide an environment where children will use self-discovery and a hands-on approach to learning. Learning should be fun and exciting! .

Dear Parents,I am both honored and privileged to have the opportunity to work with your child this year!I am originally from Seattle but went to high school and some of college at ASU (Go Devils!). However, one and a half year into my BS in Psychology I caught the travel bug and started to study abroad, first in Spain, then London then a year at the University of Edinburgh. I hopped back over the pond to graduate and then moved back to London permanently (or at least that is what I thought!). In London I did my MSc in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology at the Anna Freud Center through University College London. I developed a love for food and cooking and even considered enrolling in culinary school but my love for working with kids and families over ruled this. One of my passions is using the arts, play, and creativity to target behavior and emotions. I acquired an additional Graduate Diploma in the Application of the Arts in Therapy and Education as well as Graduate Diploma in Expressive Arts Child Counselling. I have two beautiful children of my own that I adore.I have extensive experience supporting students of all ages and inspiring them in their academic journeys. I have worked with student on planning, time management and other executive skills as well as motivation and meeting their skills with the best possible courses. In addition I have been a lifetime learner and have personal experience with both online and in classroom platforms. I have run my own business where I supported franchisees and am familiar with with standards of customer service and good client relationships. I am currently working on my PhD in Psychology of Cognition and Instruction and digest a great amount of information on how students learn best and instructional strategies. I have traveled extensively and have a strong background in history as well as cultural studies.I have taught children from babies and understand child development very well as well as cognitive development. I have spent the past three years working in a school for children with all kinds of special needs including dyslexia, ADHD, cognitive processing challenges as well as gifted children. I have also worked with children on the autism spectrum. I love making learning fun and use a variety of games and apps to make it more interesting and exciting for them! I believe every child should be met where they are at and am great at customizing and breaking down learning!I look forward to meeting you and your family!

AP French Tutor • +8 Subjects
Since 1982, I have been learning, studying and teaching French. I attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and earned a Bachelor's Degree in French from there after visiting France and French speaking Canada many times prior to graduation. During high school, I participated in a month long immersion study of French and earned a 1 year credit. This not only allowed me to learn, but to use what I had learned. I have had the privilege to teach students from ages 3-99 French. I have taught high school student, people wanting to travel to French speaking areas of the world, preschoolers and adults of all ages. Some were just learning English, so this was helpful in the infant steps of learning a language. Others were adults that had learned the language many, many years before and wanted to renew their love of the language.I not only tutor French 1,2,3,4 but AP level, Test prep and can help native French speakers understand English as well. Having taught my husband English, I know firsthand the challenges of learning languages from a non- native speaker. I don't have a preference of level of French you want to learn, but you must want to learn. Taking on a foreign language can enhance your life in more ways than one, so you must be open to learning all the aspects of the language the words, culture, food, history and traditions.I take a well-rounded approach to learning French. It's a way of life. Listen to the music of the language. Find French around you in your daily life. Before we even start the formal learning we already know over 1000 words as we use them in English, so this is something I will encourage all of my students - to keep your eyes open to the French all around you. Traveling is a great way to enhance our learning of French, whether we go to France, Canada, or just visit through books, movies and music. Engage in what an opportunity you have to grow, see the world as a bigger place and apply what you learn to other parts of your life. As a traveler, I have been to France many times. I have lived, worked and had a child there. My in-laws still live in the suburbs of Paris. My oldest child learned French from birth and we have continued the traditions, customs and heritage in our home for over 20 years. I have a passion for baseball, scrap booking, reading, traveling and music. I feel French in a part of all of those interests and I hope you'll find a way to connect what you like to French too. I am excited and interested in getting to know you and creating a learning environment where you can grow, until then... A bientt - votre professeur de franais
