Students who do well on the exam have a better chance of getting accepted into the school they'd most like to attend.
However, the ISEE tests on a number of different academic subjects and can be difficult to study for without any guidance. That's where Varsity Tutors comes in. We'd love to get your student started with a Columbus ISEE prep option that can help them feel more confident on the day of their upcoming exam. If you think that your student would benefit from this type of academic assistance, then you can contact us today to get them started. Or, you can keep reading to get more information on the ISEE and what we can do to help your student prepare for it.
What's tested on the ISEE?
The Independent School Entrance Examination or ISEE has several different levels. Your student will take the ISEE level that corresponds with the grade level that they'll be entering into the next school year. For example, students who are applying to independent high schools will take the Upper-Level ISEE. Below, you'll find a breakdown of what's covered on the Upper-Level ISEE.
The first ISEE section focuses on the topic of Verbal Reasoning. The purpose of this section is to assess the test taker's English skills. This is done through a series of 40 questions that focus on things like synonyms and sentence completion tasks. Your student will have 20 minutes to complete this part of their exam. Next, your student will take the ISEE's section on Quantitative Reasoning. This part of the exam is concerned with the test taker's math skills. Topics covered include probability, problem-solving, data analysis, and numbers and operations.
The third section of the ISEE is called Reading Comprehension. This section has a total of 36 questions and a time limit of 35 minutes. Some of the most important topics covered in this section include the author's intent, organization and logic, vocabulary, and main and supporting ideas. The next test section is called Math Achievement. This part of the ISEE has 47 questions and a time limit of 40 minutes. This section will test your student on core math topics like algebra, geometry, measurement, and more.
Finally, your student's ISEE will conclude with the Essay section. This section gives your student a chance to display their writing skills to the schools they're applying to. They'll be given a prompt that will give them a chance to tell the schools they're applying to more about themselves. To perform well on this section, your student will need to demonstrate an ability to organize a piece of writing quickly, use proper grammar and punctuation, and spell the words they use correctly. These are all things that Varsity Tutors can help students with.
How can Varsity Tutors help your student prepare for the ISEE?
After reading about everything that they'll need to know before taking the ISEE, you may have concluded that your student would benefit from having help with their test preparation process. Varsity Tutors can provide this in two primary forms. First, your student could sign up for a Columbus ISEE prep class. Second, they could decide to work with a tutor. Both of these options have unique benefits that can help your student prepare for their exam in different ways.
For example, taking a Columbus ISEE prep course is a good option for students who have done well in the traditional classroom learning environment. Classes take place on a virtual learning platform that replicates the classroom setting. They'll learn from an experienced instructor alongside a small group of peers. They'll be able to interact with their peers throughout the learning process if they'd like, which can help them get even more out of their lessons. Their instructor will take them through a step-by-step process of all of the material on the ISEE. If they have trouble with one of these lessons, then they can even work with their instructor individually to get extra assistance.
Or, you could sign your student up to work with a Columbus ISEE tutor. This option gives your student the chance to work directly with their instructor throughout the entirety of their learning experience. They can get a customized lesson plan and work through each ISEE topic at their own pace. For instance, if your student is having a hard time with the Math Achievement section, their tutor can spend additional time with them on the subjects they need the most help with. In the same way, your student will be able to work quickly through the topics that they already understand at a high level. This creates an efficient, personalized learning experience where academic growth is primed to occur.
Both of these Columbus ISEE prep options are flexible, as well. For example, we can connect you with a tutor who is able to work around your child's schedule. Similarly, new classes start weekly and there are a wide variety of options to choose from. This makes it easy to find a test preparation option that can fit into both you and your students' schedules. You can contact us directly if you need help finding the right learning supplement for your student's specific needs.
How can you get started?
The ISEE is an important standardized test that could impact your student's academic future. Are you ready to get your student started with a Columbus ISEE prep supplement? If the answer to that question is yes, then you can quickly do so by contacting Varsity Tutors today. We can help you pick out the right test preparation supplement for your student and can sign them up for it quickly. We'd love to help them feel more confident on the day of their ISEE. We hope to hear from you soon and look forward to working with your student.

...order to help them learn in the way that is best for them. I create learning experiences that are fun and engaging so that learning happens in a way that is comfortable for students, pushing them just enough so they are challenged and frustrated, but not enough to turn them off from learning.... Throughout my educational experiences as a teacher and a learner, I have developed an understanding of the uniqueness of learning. Every student learns in a different way and at a different speed. This understanding is why you will hear the terms "personal best" and "fair is fair" throughout the year. "Personal best" is the idea that no matter what you do, you do it to the best of your ability. I will always do my personal best in the classroom, and I expect the same of my students. I am aware that every student will have a bad day, just as I hope they will understand when I do. "Personal best" is not a constant; it is an individual's best effort for a particular situation. I expect students to do the best they are able at a particular moment on a particular task and I want them to hold me to the same expectation.
