Varsity Tutors can assist aspiring law school students in reviewing the LSAT exam with our excellent Atlanta LSAT prep options. For people who want to pursue a career in law, they have to take the LSAT if they wish to go to schools like Emory University School of Law and the University of Georgia School of Law.
The LSAT, which stands for the Law School Admission Test, is a standardized exam that law schools use to measure a prospective student's skills that are needed to do well on coursework. It's the only test accepted for admission purposes by accredited law schools in the United States and Canada. Varsity Tutors can connect you with a prep course or private tutoring. We can match you with an Atlanta LSAT prep course if you enjoy working with your peers. If you prefer a one-on-one environment, we can find a professional Atlanta LSAT tutor for you.
What can Atlanta LSAT preparation help me go over?
The LSAT consists of four sections: Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Writing. This test is delivered on digital tablets, but you can use scratch paper and writing utensils for notes. The tablet comes with convenient features like a timer with a five-minute warning and highlighting and flagging components to keep track of questions that you may want to return to. A professor or a classmate has probably told you a little about the LSAT, but in case you don't know about the test, here's an overview of each section.
The Reading Comprehension section contains a section with questions that assess your ability to read and comprehend complex, long-form texts that mimic ones you'll come across in law school. The questions cover the main idea of a passage, a writer's attitude towards an issue, the structure of a passage, and more. You have 35 minutes to answer the questions.
The Analytical Reasoning section has one section dedicated to questions that measure your ability to comprehend relationship structures and draw conclusions about those structures. Here, you need to reason with conditional statements, infer what could be or must be true from provided rules and facts, and demonstrate other related skills. Its time limit is 35 minutes.
The Logical Reasoning section consists of two sections that test your ability to analyze, evaluate, and complete arguments. It offers content sources like advertisements, newspapers, and magazines. This section requires you to apply your reasoning skills as well as skills in identifying flaws and solid evidence. You have to finish it in 70 minutes.
The Writing section is an unscored section that presents a decision problem. You need to choose a position and defend your decision. The purpose of this section is to allow you to demonstrate your argument skills, which come in handy for schoolwork and in your law career. Don't worry about being "right" or "wrong" since there are no correct or incorrect responses. Unlike the above sections, this one is administered in a separate, testing platform. You have up to a year to complete it, and the time limit is 35 minutes.
The score you receive on the LSAT depends on the number of questions you answer correctly, aka your raw score. All questions on the exam sections are weighed the same way. The number of questions you correctly answer is what matters for your overall score, not whether you answer questions correctly or incorrectly. The raw scores are converted to a scale that ranges from 120 to 180. Your score won't be deducted for wrong answers, so don't be afraid to guess since there's no risk in doing so.
How do Atlanta LSAT prep options benefit me?
Varsity Tutors can enroll you in prep classes or set you up with personalized lessons. Each option has unique benefits, and you're welcome to sign up for both of them. Read on to learn more about these special programs.
An Atlanta LSAT prep class resembles a brick and mortar classroom except all lessons are online. There are new sessions every week, and you can join a two-week class or a four-week class. In each session, you virtually communicate with other pupils and the teacher. All of you will work together to review for the LSAT. For instance, you can prepare for the Analytical Reasoning section by practicing with sample logic puzzles. You all can also strengthen your skills for the Writing section by choosing a topic and defending a chosen position. It's normal for law school candidates to get test jitters as exam day approaches as well. Your instructor can share techniques for staying calm and collected during the test. Additionally, you can request one-on-one time with the instructor if you want individual assistance with certain areas of the exam.
A private instructor allows you to express what's on your mind without distractions from others. Perhaps, you want someone to help you track your academic progress. You can talk about your strong points, weak points, academic dreams, and any other goals you want to pursue. A tutor can use this information to make a personalized study plan that they can monitor and adjust when you show progress. Maybe you're unsure what type of law you want to specialize in. An educator can provide information in the form of books, websites, and other formats to try to inspire some ideas. What's great about studying with a tutor is that they can direct a lesson at a pace that's comfortable for you. If certain things sound confusing, they can use different approaches to explain a concept until you are ready to move on.
