The student has been steadily improving on her practice tests, and I hope she will be able to recreate her strong form on test day today. We spent most of the time today on math and science, areas where she felt she could use the most help. Overall, her math problems have been misreading questions or answering the problems partially. We've talked about the importance of following through on problems and also what to do if she gets stuck. She's confident in her English and Reading abilities and that confidence has shown on her practice tests. I hope she can peak on test day this weekend.

We did more math practice. The student is doing extremely well in this portion of the ACT and understands 99% of the concepts involved. If she wants to do even better, she needs to just focus on making fewer mistakes, which can come from developing good habits to approaching each problem. For now, Math is not a priority, and we will move onto different sections starting next week to see how she fairs in those.

We went through the Math and English portions of the second practice test. We went over algebraic equations and functions, specifically how to simplify functions with three variables. We went over reasoning and logic problems and applied them to other strategies for quickly finding a solution, such as splitting a large square root into smaller parts. We then went over conjunctions and parallel structure in English grammar. I will send the student a list of math equations to memorize as well as a prompt for Sunday's session.

The student and I spent the majority of our time on the ACT Math section, with just a few minutes left to spare for ACT Science. She has a great and intuitive grasp of logical principles, so I mostly had to help her with brushing up on the details such as formulas and concepts like SOH-CAH-TOA. As always, she was fantastic at picking up on everything extremely fast and was a great student with a positive attitude.

Today, the student and I focused on really solidifying her understanding of converting between radians and degrees, which will help her with her speed on geometry and trigonometry problems. She did a set of practice problems and got faster and more confident throughout the set! After that, we went over the problems she missed from a math section in her practice book that she took at an earlier session, and then we did "speed runs" of 15 problems in 15 minutes and 10 problems in 10 minutes to help with her pacing. She was focused and engaged throughout the session, letting me know when problems were too easy or when she needed me to explain a problem a different way.

For the first 30 minutes, we went over the student's coursework on parabolas and the FOIL method. She did very well with the overall material, and I think she will do fine on her quiz. We then went through multiple practice questions for the ACT math portion. I chose a very difficult practice exam so some of the questions were a challenge, but with the exception of one or two questions, she knew all of the math necessary. The ACT and SAT rely heavily on certain wording and expressions, so she should continue to study different types of questions so she can utilize her knowledge quickly and efficiently. I also gave her a mini "homework" assignment. Log functions are very difficult, so I do not expect her to understand them straight away, but if she watches a few videos online, they should become a bit clearer.
