Hello, I'm Ava! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Anthropology from William & Mary in May 2025, where I developed a strong skill in reading comprehension, writing, and critical analysis. My academic background includes writing-intensive seminars, literary theory, and interdisciplinary studies, equipping me with the tools to support students in English at all levels. I placed first for my poetry in the college's literary awards, and am equipped to assist with creative writing as well.

I'm especially strong at drawing connections---and helping others do the same---between literary devices and broader concepts in literature and personal creative writing. I'm also skilled at helping to proofread and edit essays and creative works, creating essay plans, and working with students to form ideas for analytical essays. I have tutored college and high school aged students as needed for the past 6 years, focusing on analytical skills and essay writing and editing.

In addition to my degree, I have experience working with diverse communities, including serving as a Curriculum Director Intern for a K-12 educational program on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where I helped design and teach culturally relevant and skill-level adapted educational materials. I have worked with students ranging from 5 years old through adulthood in both one-on-one and small group settings, as I have 5 years of experience as a sailing instructor. It is through this role that I have sharpened my ability to break down complex concepts into approachable steps and create an encouraging learning environment. I bring that same patience and clarity to tutoring, strengthened by my own experience as a student with ADHD. My approach is highly individualized---I'm a strong believer in adjusting my teaching style to best suit my students' needs and I'm passionate about helping others succeed by meeting them where they are!
