Hi, I'm Briana but I most often go by Aries (a nickname from college that I've grown very attached to!) I'm a current graduate student at the Univeristy of North Carolina at Greensboro. I'm pursuing my master's degree with plans to continue into a PhD program and eventually teach at a collegiate level, so my studies have focused on education and teaching for a long time.
I have a deep love for education, and I'm hoping to help your student gain the numerous skills necessary to exceed all expectations! I have lifelong experience being a peer educator, tutor, mentor, and study buddy. My most recent and in-depth training is from the Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools, a non-profit organization coming out of the Civil Rights movement with a dedication to literacy for school aged children. Working as an instructor with this program for two years, I not only built my own reading and writing curriculum for 2nd to 5th grade students, but also worked to access and meet the individual needs of students using a holistic approach to learning. I believe that all of the world is a classroom, and we're learning all the time whether we realize it or not; schools can make learning feel like a chore when it can and should feel like an expedition, a challenge, and an opportunity to grow.
Fostering not only essential skills, but a love of learning as well, is ultimately my goal and my passion. I hope to find ways to make your child love learning, even when its difficult!
