I am currently attending Palm Beach State College and have just earned my A.A. here. I am pursuing a career in education as a high school math teacher. Since middle school, I have been tutoring classmates and peers, which means I have been tutoring for over 8 years. I have tutored students from grade levels K-12 and some college level students.
I tutor a wide range of subjects including different levels of reading, writing, science, and math. Math is my favorite subject to tutor because 1) it comes naturally to me and 2) I love challenging students' beliefs about themselves that they are "bad-at-math students." Math is one of those subjects that students often give up on after they feel as if they are too far behind, but just like any other skill, dedicating time and effort towards learning it would help any struggling student.
Some of my interests including reading, writing, singing, dancing, art, crafting, cooking, and volunteering. These are all methods by which I teach myself new skills and expand my capacities. Learning new things and having new experiences excites me and drives me as a person. The more I know and am able to do, the more I can help others.
My mission as a tutor is to help students develop a belief in their abilities and regain a curiosity and passion for learning. Rather than focusing on the bare minimums to pass a class or focusing on test scores and grades, I want students to focus on improving themselves and developing as people through learning new things in school. My empowering students and motivating them to take control of their own education, we can create powerful students that become powerful citizens in our nation. We as educators are responsible for the students of our community. School should be a place where students discover more about themselves and the world around them, finding their roles in life and how they can contribute to society.
