I started tutoring in 1988. My first "client" was mom, going back to school after 25 years and restarting in beginning algebra like a lot of college students. For students like my mom, I bring a lot of patience. Math is a struggle for a lot of people. I've hit those walls myself, but persistence and perseverance pay off in the end. I figured out a lot of ways to explain basic concepts, and in ways a non "math person" can understand.
When I tutor more advanced subjects, I bring the same wealth of knowledge from multiple perspectives to my sessions. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, and when I don't know something, I'm eager to learn it. I like to push myself to improve. I bring more than a decade-and-a-half of teaching and tutoring experience in calculus and above. And I've made a point of understanding many of the applications where the math will be applied, to help bring context to what we do.
In my "free" time, I like to write novels (science fiction and fantasy), and crochet. I read a lot of science articles and books, and generally learning about new things. Lately, I've decided to try to relearn French, German and Japanese that I took in school many years ago. My favorite subject is astronomy.
