Today we hit translations hard and worked on many problems for practice sheets. The student has some difficulty with visualizing the transformations so I focused on tactile and algebraic methods.

The student did very well. Fortunately, he's still very strong with math as he's spent so much time practicing it. Additionally, we worked on writing and spelling. We're working on making sure sentences are written correctly and with proper grammar.

Today, we reviewed several topics including geometry, polar coordinates, functions, and probability. The student seemed to grasp the material well, and I am sure she will do a great job on her SAT subject test!

I met with the student for the first time. He explained that, while he is competent in the four basic operations, he starts to get lost when solving simple algebraic equations with variables. We covered prerequisite skills and knowledge, going over the definition of a variable, coefficient, and constant, positive and negative integers, as well as how the additive and multiplicative inverses work to "turn the problem inside-out" and isolate the variable by either adding zero or multiplying by one. I demonstrated key concepts for him by using color-coded and animated PowerPoint presentations that I have designed over the years. I took two of his work samples/tests from school in order to be able to discuss them next session. I will also give him some follow-up questions and practice problems next session.

During this session we reviewed for the exam and the student completed some assignments for class. The session went well.

I met with the student to review for her geometry midterm. We reviewed the errors she made on Chapter 1 - lines, angles, segments, midpoint, and distance. We will focus on writing proofs next session.
