Today the student and I worked on his final draft. I did a lot of editing and encouraged him to re-write run-on sentences, re-write sentences that were unclear to the reader and correct grammatical and spelling errors. I encouraged him to beef up the amount of sources he used and also to add a paragraph that his teacher liked from his original draft. By the end of our session the paper really stood out as in my opinion, an A paper. Hopefully his hard work will pay off.

Today, the student and I covered another 4 or so units in Geometry. We covered similar triangles, areas of quadrilaterals, etc. He is doing just fine, and is progressing very well. We should be finished with everything this Wednesday.

1. Practiced the imperfect (past) tense. 2. Reviewed vocabulary 2 (los pasatiempos and juguetes), 4 (regular verbs) and 6 (common expressions with the imperfect). 3. Wrote sentences using the imperfect of the verbs on the list and the vocabulary words (pasatiempos y juguetes). 4. Reviewed spelling change verbs in the preterite. 5. Reviewed stem change verbs in the preterite. 6. Studied for the quiz on Friday. 7. Review on school website.

We went over the student's practice SSAT test, focusing on math. We went over the questions that she got wrong, and went through each problem step-by-step until she showed that she understood the concepts. I gave her some pages from the book to work on for our next meeting.

The student read from the book, pages 13-48. His fluency is so improved. He does well with new words. If he has trouble pronouncing a new word, he hears the new words from me and knows the word the next time he comes to it. He has pronounced several new words on his own.

The student and I spent the session discussing strategies for the verbal section of the SAT, particularly the vocabulary section and the reading comprehension. I gave him insight on work strategies that will increase a student's focus and score. Towards the end of the session, we went over how to best answer comparing and contrasting passages.
