Today, we focused on the English section of the ACT. I am focusing on timing him to perform sections because he is pretty accurate in his answers when given the time. My primary goal is to work towards making him comfortable with the time restraints so that he can keep his good performance and answer the questions in a timely manner. His timing is already starting to improve and I hope that improvement continues.

The student and I met for the first time today. We studied molar masses, gram to mole calculations, using Avogadro's number, and empirical/molecular formulas. We'll meet again next week to work on studying for his final.

I reviewed the student's rough draft of his paper. After we discussed structural and grammatical changes that could be made, we continued our review of grammar for his final English test. We worked on correcting sentence fragments and run-on sentences.

The student and I continued discussing Heat, including the 3 laws of thermodynamics, and solved some practice questions. This concludes our discussion of heat. He seems capable of doing most of the SAT II problems on this subject.

The student and I reviewed expected values using a z-score table, and binomial distributions and probability. This session went very well. She is getting much better at understanding the reasoning behind the calculations and I've adapted my teaching to her learning style. Her confidence is also improving slightly. She did a little better on the last quiz she got back, and should do even better on the last one she took.
