Tutoring review by Sam in Hogan's Creek, FL
The student and I went through his homework packet for the week. He now fully understands slope. He knows how to find it, when to use it, and appears to find it easy now. This is a big improvement. He is still a little unsure with distance, but has definitely shown a lot of improvement there as well. He is good with triangles and trigonometry, and this helps him do well with proofs regarding triangles. His attitude is positive, as always.

We covered finding the domain of functions and graphing piecewise functions. The student is not completely comfortable with certain pre-calc concepts, but is eager to learn and understand. She was encouraged to continue practice problems from the textbook.

Tutoring review by Maria in Hogan's Creek, FL
The student and I went over his past SAT exam. We focused on questions he had difficulty with and I had the chance to see his troubled areas of study. Some of his most challenging topics were functions, coordinate geometry, and long reading comprehension problems. We also touched upon his writing section and I will be giving him some pointers to look out for in the future. He is a bright student and once he sets his mind to a question, he focuses well. I gave the student some pointers about how to approach time-consuming math problems and gave him the instruction to always read aloud questions for the grammar section.

Tutoring review by Lynn in Hogan's Creek, FL
We did more review on operations with positive/ negative numbers, scientific notation, and solving algebraic equations. She had trouble with adding/ dividing when it was in the format in algebraic equations (stacked). Thus, I gave her a lot of practice problems that were purposely in that format so she could get used to it. The key strategy is to look at what the signs of the two numbers are in the first place and then she would know what to do next, using the rules she learned. I also did a lot of speed practice with her today. She should do her homework in a timely manner, possibly around one hour.

Tutoring review by Brett in Hogan's Creek, FL
We worked on solving systems of equations using different methods. Methods included elimination, substitution, and matrix form. We also worked on using row operations in matrix form to get the matrix into row-echelon form, which can then be used to find the solution(s) to the system of equations.

The student is taking her test on Saturday. At her mother's request, we worked on perimeter, area, and percent. She did very well on perimeter and area. She just needs to remember to convert the percent to decimals.
