I knew that teaching was my passion since high school, where I had a teacher that changed my perspective on education. I was a student that did not like school, and did not understand its importance. This teacher helped me by making me feel valued, understood, and gave me an opportunity to grow. I knew then that I wanted to have this type of impact on students in the future. I graduated from Florida Southern College and have begun my teaching career in Polk County, FL.

I am a Lifelong Learner! I have a Master's and Doctorate Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. I obtained an additional Master's degree in Psychology from Grand Canyon University. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an educator. I have 33 years of experience with middle, high school, and graduate students. I appreciate diversity and enjoy having international students in my class. I am passionate about Science, Psychology, and Graduate Education. I have worked in both public and private schools and universities. My online teaching is so much fun and I love to meet new people from all over the world. Using different strategies while helping students has been a proven success. Proofreading and editing are also among my strengths. I believe that education opens many doors for those willing to put in the work. In my spare time, I like to travel, swim, exercise, volunteer, and hang out with my 16 year old daughter.
I graduated from Florida Southern College with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. After, teaching elementary students for five years I received my Master of Arts in Human Services at Southeastern University. I have continued to work with students in elementary and I believe they are my calling. As an elementary student I had difficulties in reading and felt the stress of not being on the same level as my peers. Now, I can use my experiences to help the students I work with grow into strong, confident scholars. Currently, I teach fifth grade and have taught first through fifth grade. Teaching whole group lessons is part of my daily routine, but working with students one on one and independently is where my students seem to excel. During small group lessons, I am able to meet the students' specific needs and can facilitate their learning. I teach the core subjects including English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading and math. I believe that every child is capable of learning, but every child doesn't learn the same way or at the same rate. It is my job to help my students learn and realize that they are capable of learning. At the elementary level I also need to help motivate students to want to improve and meet their learning goals. Outside of teaching, I love spending time with my family, exploring local parks, reading, and jogging with my dog.

One of my greatest passions in life is helping those around me with whatever it was they needed. I am currently finishing my education at Florida Southern College for a Bachelors of Arts in History. During my time here, I have observed many grade school students, mainly secondary, and have brought a different approach to the classroom. I firmly believe that learning should build strong foundations while expanding the base for more learning opportunities. I love to teach Music and Foreign Languages, mainly French and it always warms my heart when get to see that 'Aha!' moment on a student's face when everything falls into place. I was once the 'non-conventional' learner myself and I utilize that to my advantage every time when I give an explanation for something that seems to stump a person. 'You'll never forget it now!', I always say.I began to realize my love for music at a young age when I went to a music camp at my community college when I was 7. My mind was blown! There were so many instruments there and I could learn about them! When it came time for me to register for my first middle school classes, I put band as the very first thing I wanted to do and now, after about 10 years of playing instruments and writing music, I can say without a doubt that I'm still in love with it, just like that 7 year old girl.French came to me when I was in high school and I needed to take a foreign language. It was either that or Spanish, and they always said the Spanish classes were full. That didn't bother me, since I always loved European culture and French was at the top of the list. I've been studying French either independently or in a classroom setting for about 3 years now, with some other languages mixed in.When I'm not tutoring, I'm either serving up some coffee in my college Starbucks, playing my sax, harp, or piano, or just having fun with my dog, Fletcher.
I am currently an undergraduate student at Florida Southern College double majoring in Biology and Spanish with a minor in chemistry. I love to learn and I hope that I can share my passion for all that I know with you guys.Outside of tutoring I enjoy running, hanging out with friends, and listening to music.
Student centered learning is the focus of my instruction. In my experience, a student's individual needs and personality drive instruction. Once an educator has identified the student's strengths and weaknesses, they can use the student's strengths to support their weaknesses. For the past thirty-three years, I have educated students ranging in age from five through adulthood, including those at the graduate level. I am a certified educator in Illinois, and hold a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Florida Southern College, and a Master of Arts in Reading Education from the University of South Florida. In addition to my graduate degrees, I have been trained as a reading coach to certified educators in reading instruction. To add to my professional credentials, I am a published author in association with Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society for educators, and I have been featured on the podcast channel entitled, New Teacher Talk on the topic of Virtual Tutoring. Literacy has become my passion in education. In working with students as a Varsity tutor for the past four years, I have been able to increase their reading and writing skills by two or three grade levels plus. Presently, I am experiencing success with students who are challenged in reading and writing because of issues with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADHD. I also work with students who are at different verbal levels of communication. No matter where a student is in their educational development, once they have attained some level of proficiency in both reading and writing skills, they possess the tools of a self-learner.
I am a Florida Bar-admitted attorney who helps students understand how the bar exam is actually graded and how to maximize points on every question. I focus on issue-spotting, rule statements, and efficient answer structure so students can turn knowledge into score increases.
