Hello. I am a recent graduate, holding two baccalaureate degrees. I received a Bachelors of Arts from the University of Florida in Classical Studies, and a Bachelors of Arts from Florida International University in English. Although my first degree is in the field of ancient Greek and Roman societies, I returned to school for my true passion which is English and all that is involved in it. Reading and writing has been a major part of my life since the second grade, where this fervor was first instilled in me.While a student at FIU, I worked at the center for Excellence in Writing as a Writing Consultant, helping students with their fear of writing and working with them to make them better writers rather than just get the grade they immediately need. As a writing tutor, I was reminded that everyone has the ability to become a good writer; however, many of them fear it because they believe they have nothing more to say on any given topic. Here I step in and encourage students, conversing with them about the process and show them that what they have to say is truly important. This leads to more confidence in their work and better writing in the long term. Besides my official tutoring experience, I have volunteered at multiple schools, mainly an Elementary School where my mother is a first grade teacher.Academically, I have been an active of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society at FIU, and Eta Sigma Phi, the Classics Honor Society at UF. Currently I am working on applying for my Masters in Fine Arts for Creative Writing, which will hopefully then lead me to a PhD to ultimately become a professor of Writing at the college level. Many schools are on my list of applications, and although it can be daunting, I know the experiences I have had as a tutor will help me to become a better writer.In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching good movies, and engrossing myself in good books. I love the written word. I know many times students hate reading and writing. I hope to have some influence to change that.

All my life, I was always curious about how the human body work. A growing interest in understanding the origin, growth, and function of living species led me to major in Biology. I started at Miami Dade College as pre-med and transfer to Florida International University (FIU) where I received my bachelor of Sciences in Biology major. While I was attending FIU I worked as a Peer-Led Tutoring Leader at MDC, where I guided and mentored students who struggled with mathematics, chemistry, and biology. My experience tutoring other student help me understand the materials better by trying different techniques for problem solving. I have recently graduated from St. Matthew's University as a Doctor of Medicine and am currently waiting to enter the 2023 Match Cycle for Residency. I have made my career by studying hard, going to school and overcoming my academic weaknesses. But I wasn't always this strong in academics and I have even needed my fair share of tutors in the past.I struggled with math for a very long time and I worked with many tutors to try and improve. It wasn't until one of my tutors pointed out that my hand writing was too small and my work was sloppily written. By just working on my hand writing and organization I improved significantly in math.I realized that my problem wasn't necessarily understanding the material. There was something else in the way causing me to perform poorly. I am now in my third year of teaching were I have worked with a variety of disabilities. My philosophy of teaching is simple. A classroom is not a "cookie cutter classroom", where one size fits all. As a special educator I must adapt the curriculum to each student, taking into account the diverse population of a 21st century classroom. I do this first by getting to know my students as individuals, taking into account their backgrounds, interests, goals, academic strengths, personal needs, and abilities where I can then focus on how they can best access the curriculum. After a year in that role, I became the Program Coordinator for the Office of Diversity & Inclusion at the medical school, developing and promoting programs and services designed to enhance the intersectionality of the medical schools' college community. Throughout my service in academia, many of my successes include the program development of the pipeline program, the Florida Scientific Training and Research (STAR) program; a multi-year academic and social enrichment program developed to prepare undergraduate minority students for a career in medicine, and the facilitation of a fundraising event that raised over $10,000 in scholarship for students historically underrepresented in medicine.
