My curiosity of the complexities of human nature is what led me to study anthropology during my years as an undergraduate. Exposed to multiple nationalities and being raised in two countries, Colombia and the United States, gave me the ability to comprehend different ethnicities. The study of anthropology fostered qualities of empathy, open-mindedness, patience, and analytical intelligence within me. Since the science of humanity continues to be a passion of mine, I am determined to join an organization that will allow me direct contact with people and to serve society in a more profound manner. While being raised in Colombia, I learned about poverty and how education can provide the training students need to succeed on their own. My attention changed to humanitarian crisis where I believe literacy programs empower people to seek constructive change in their communities and cultures. After moving back to the States, I realized how privileged I was to have come back to a country that offers many opportunities to their students. During my time at the university, I was part of various human-rights organizations such as Global Friendship, Amnesty International and Heal the World. I also attended human rights film events where I was introduced to other organizations. Viewing these helped me gain some knowledge about National and International human rights standards, how to support human rights reforms in other countries, and how to outreach initiatives to better serve vulnerable populations Internationally and around me.After graduating, the experiences I amassed during this period of my life opened my eyes to the immense need and profound benefits of expanding and enriching educational horizons. After studying abroad in Australia and teaching in China, I sought other teaching and international experiences that include teaching immigrants in my community and tutoring international and American students. As a student mentor, I worked with international University students to help them improve their English, adjust to change, and succeed academically and socially in an American University. Education will always be part of my professional passion because of the change I have seen it make in people’s lives. Ultimately, my personal, educational, and professional background motivates me to contribute to society in a way that comprises my beliefs and values of helping those in need.

I am a graduate of the University of Miami School of Communications and received a B.S. in Communications. I doubled majored in Advertising and English Literature and minored in Fine Arts. While studying at UM, I participated in a Study Abroad program and spent a semester in Prague, Czech Republic. The time I spent abroad sparked a desire to travel and study other cultures. This was my first exposure to tutoring students in English. Since graduation, I have spent time working as a substitute teacher and received my TESOL certification to teach English abroad. While I tutor a range of subjects including elementary and middle school math and test preparation, I am passionate about reading, writing, and editing. I strongly believe that the ability to communicate clearly is one of the most important skills any student can learn. I also believe there are many ways to approach a problem, whether in math or writing or study skills, and look forward to finding creative approaches with my students and building upon past sessions to create a solid foundation for future learning. Outside of education, I enjoy sewing and crafting, art, exercising, and reading.

AP Calculus AB Tutor • +33 Subjects

Hi!I'm 27 years old and I have been tutoring for over 5 years now. I have done a little bit of everything when it comes to tutoring/teaching. I was a UTA at UCF for a few semesters, an SI leader for Calculus classes for a couple of years, I have also worked in a number of online platforms where I have worked with at least 1000 over the past years. After majoring in mechanical engineering I moved to Europe and have lived in a few countries ever since. Tutoring has been a steady side-gig for me in Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, and The Netherlands. I am also a massive language learning fan and I guess that because it made me more marketable, I have actually held tutoring sessions in at least five languages; I know what I'm doing. My MO is pretty simple: we meet, we discuss your motivations and expectations, I come up with a plan, we tweak it together, and then we are off to the races.

Elementary School English Tutor • +24 Subjects

I was born in New Jersey, and I am a native English speaker. Before beginning my carrier as an educator, I obtained an A.S. degree in Animal Science and worked as a veterinary technician for ten years. Moving to South Florida in 1997 provided me with many exciting opportunities, one of them being educating children and adults from many different countries and cultures. I began tutoring English as a Second Language ESOL in 2001 while hosting a foreign exchange student, and I have taught children, adults, business executives, homemakers, and college-bound students since that time. I have extensive experience in teaching all levels of ESOL, accent reduction, conversation classes, business English, reading, and writing as well as TOEFL test prep. Working as an editor, translator, and interpreter keeps my grammar and editing skills sharp, which comes in very handy when tutoring students in English. Although my passion is in teaching languages, I also enjoy tutoring grammar school students in whatever area of difficulty they may be struggling with at school and seeing them overcome obstacles to obtain better grades. Lessons are always tailored to the students needs and learning styles.Having raised four children, I feel quite at home working with little ones. Their boundless energy and inquisitiveness makes these classes especially fun and interesting to teach. I believe all class sessions should be interactive and engaging, regardless of the age of the student, and I always try to inject energy and enthusiasm into the equation, hoping it will be contagious. I love to see both children and adults progress in their academic skills, which gives them confidence in every area of their lives. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish in 2006 from Florida International University, with a minor in translation and certificates in interpreting and translation, I also began tutoring/teaching Spanish. I have had the privilege of teaching High School Spanish 1 to a homeschool group, and I currently tutor business executives and children in learning Spanish as a foreign language. Having learned a second language as an adult, I have a unique perspective into the needs of students who may be struggling with learning a second language or using it in their work or school environment. In my free time, I enjoy horseback riding, CrossFit, triathlon races, and spending time with family.

Fundamentally, science is the study of how things work ... both theoretically and practically. It is where we utilize the skills from all disciplines to solve real world problems and create future technologies. In order to truly study science a student must develop and utilize critical thinking skills. Such critical thinking skills are in great demand in today's workforce. These are the higher level skills which are "out of the box" in nature. I expect this kind of mature thinking in the work that we do in my classroom. Each of us has some goal for our years in science. In order to balance the goals of the students, parents, administration, and the State, my overarching philosophy is to strengthen the student's technical / science skills. I want the students to be able to take on the challenge of the very technical world that they are going to inherit with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). I also want the students to become very strong thinkers and problem solvers.
