I am a Communications Major with a penchant for reading, writing, some math, and film! (I picked up a Cinema Studies Minor as well) I used to be an editor in a few newspapers, so I love working with others to improve their writing skills. I have tutored many areas in both high school and college and have coached softball to girls of many ages. I especially love helping students master their test-taking skills, because I understand what it was like having to navigate such a high pressure environment! Providing just a few tools can make a world of difference.

I am a huge component of constant feedback. A session may be wasted if feedback is only provided in the last five minutes. For this reason, I would help students stay motivated by maintaining a conversation over the material and relating to other interesting aspects of their life. Hobbies: books, reading, writing, music, art, sports

I am able to determine what obstacles are preventing a student from grasping a concept, and create different means of overcoming those obstacles. Creating a partnership with the student and understanding what he or she needs to overcome is what makes me a great tutor.

I am an undergraduate at Rice University, and my favorite subjects to tutor are math and science. I also enjoy doing test prep, and my experience comes from helping fellow students in high school. One of the most important aspects of tutoring is fitting the teaching style to each student. One method that works great for one student may not work well for another. Tutoring is all about coming up with different ways for my students to understand the material. If my student is not interested in the subject we are learning, I will try to find a way to tie in their interests and passions into the subject to better engage them. I want to be there for my students, not only as a tutor, but also as a friend. In addition to my interests in math and science (and learning in general), I enjoy swimming, biking, reading, and cooking. I also believe that fostering curiosity and determination are the keys to success. Hobbies: art, books, reading, cooking, music, swimming, writing

I am a science writer and podcaster with a rigorous academic background who is passionate about sharing my knowledge of chemistry with curious minds. I earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and Asian art history from UC Berkeley and completed a PhD in inorganic chemistry at MIT. I have five years of experience teaching college-level general and organic chemistry courses at various institutions in California, Massachusetts, New York, and Texas, and hope to expand on my experience as a private tutor. Often a required subject for other classes, chemistry is often considered "the central science" as it's related to biology and physics, and I appreciate that chemical principles can be observed throughout daily life from cooking to medicine to electronics. I believe that education is the world's greatest social equalizer and hope that my students learn to make new connections between classes and other aspects of their life. Outside of science, I love dogs, food, and the outdoors.

I am a graduate from Stanford University. I received my Bachelor's in Economics there and continued to receive a certificate in Full Stack Web Development from the University of Texas Austin. I have tutored intermittently, primarily teaching test prep; however, I have at different points taught most everything. Here in the Houston area, I've worked with Testmasters, C2 Education and Test Geek. I implement the Socratic Method into my teaching style: I ask plenty of questions that force students to deeply understand the material and to explain how they know why their answer is correct or not. I also believe it is my duty to equip students with tools to become better learners themselves which entails welcoming unique and creative approaches to solving problems, encouraging students to connect the relationships between different topics and subjects, and recommending using external sources and materials to learn and supplement understanding. Hobbies: art, travel, sports, reading, writing, books, traveling, music

Students in The Woodlands seek tutoring across a wide range of subjects, with particularly high demand for math, English language arts, science, and test preparation (SAT, ACT, and AP exams). Many students also pursue support in advanced courses like AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and honors-level math to stay competitive. Your first session is focused on understanding your student's goals, learning style, and current academic needs. The tutor will assess where your student stands in their subject, identify specific areas for improvement, and create a personalized plan moving forward. This foundation helps ensure that every session that follows is targeted and effective for your student's unique situation.
Many students see noticeable improvements in understanding and confidence within the first few weeks of consistent 1-on-1 instruction. More significant academic gains—like improved grades, test scores, or mastery of challenging concepts—typically develop over a few months of regular sessions. The timeline depends on your student's starting point, the subject, and how frequently they meet with their tutor.
Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have strong subject knowledge and experience teaching. Tutors are vetted for their expertise and ability to work effectively with students at various levels—from those needing foundational support to advanced learners. Each tutor brings their own teaching style and background, so we work to match your student with someone who fits their learning needs and personality.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions you choose. We work with families to create a tutoring plan that fits their budget and schedule—whether that's weekly sessions, intensive test prep, or flexible ongoing support.
