I'm Toni, a college English professor looking to help you better engage with your learning interests! As a professor, my teaching style emphasizes active learning as a central component, aiming to make my classes more centered on students discovering the material and constructing their own knowledge. In teaching and tutoring, I see myself more as a facilitator of learning who provides students the necessary tools and direction for them to uncover the concepts themselves. I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, where I received an MA in the humanities with a focus on on disability studies. For my undergraduate education, I attended Claremont Mckenna College where I focused on English Literature.

I received my Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago and my B.A. from The Johns Hopkins University. Hobbies: books, music, hiking, art, kayaking, reading, swimming, writing

I am a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism of Northwestern University with an MSJ in Broadcast Journalism, and of Binghamton University of the State University of New York with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Rhetoric and Literature. While at Binghamton I also minored in Spanish and completed a certification in Comparative Literature and Translation Studies. I tutored Spanish while in college and worked as a translator for a municipal agency in the City of New York for many years. I enjoy tutoring essay writing, English Literature and critical thinking skills, and Spanish. I enjoy working with students to help them achieve their academic goals. I love seeing a student's face when they get that 'A-ha' moment, and I especially love knowing that I contributed to that. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, journaling, cooking, singing, dancing, and spending time with family.

I'm a PhD student in Modern European History at Rutgers University, and I recently did an exchange year at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris. I have 8 years of experiencing in tutoring and previously worked for the Educational Testing Service in test development for the SAT, PSAT and pre-AP English exams.

I am currently studying for a Master's in Secondary Education; additionally, I recently obtained my Master's in English Language and Literature from Boston College. During the course of that degree, I concentrated in Irish Literature and Culture. Previous to that course of study, I double majored in undergrad, studying both English and history. My specialties for history are world history and American history. Hobbies: reading, music, art, movies, books, writing

I am also fluent in Italian; and have extensive advanced fluency in French and German. I picked up my language skills while working and traveling to over 65 countries. My extensive linguistics knowledge coupled with my teaching experience allows me to help students struggling with learning Spanish; or writing college essays, term papers, dissertations or articles for publication; or organization skills to improve academic performance. Because of my varied travel experience I find it easy to adjust to students experiences and learning gaps in order to show them how to utilize the knowledge they already have and build on that knowledge in order to attain greater skills.

I am also an academic life coach and advisor, as well as a graduate programs administrator. I love to write and have been published both under my own name and under a handful of other pen names. I regularly present to my local professional organizations on topics regarding student success, particularly at the graduate level.

I am persuasive and capable of developing rapport and trust, as well as experienced in influencing the attitudes and ideas of others.

I am a chemical engineer, with work experience in tutoring, lab research and process design. Chemical engineering is my passion, especially since it relates to so many aspects of our day-to-day life, and I am excited to help students see how exciting science and engineering can be. One of my favorite parts of teaching is helping students relate abstract science concepts to tangible physical phenomena. Partly inspired by my love of gardening and birdwatching, I have gained a technical understanding of ecological systems, particularly native plant communities.
