I have tutored formally since 7th grade, when I organized and ran a peer tutoring organization at my school. As a result of this two-year project, I was named a 2006 Distinguished Finalist for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. I attended an early college high school program (the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science) and volunteered in a local middle school, where I worked with struggling students one-on-one. I then transferred to Texas A&M University, where I earned a B.S. in Psychology (with a minor in Neuroscience) in 2013. During college, I tutored several Psychology and Neuroscience courses. After graduating from Texas A&M, I began a graduate program in Neuroscience at the University of Texas at Austin. While in this program, I volunteered in several reverse-inclusion courses for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, which renewed my interest both in teaching and in working with individuals with special needs.I am excited to work with all students, particularly those with special needs (including G/T). Please contact me with any questions you may have, and I look forward to working with you and/or your child!

I believe the best student is also the best tutor. I am the kind that likes to engage my students in everything I teach them. I received my Bachelor's degree in Biology from Syracuse university, master's in biomedical science at Touro and currently at New York College of Podiatric medicine hoping to become Podiatric surgeon and expert in foot and ankle diseases.

I was once in the same shoes of many Varsity Tutors' students. I was struggling to learn my subjects and preparing for the SAT standardized test. I came from a rural high school (DuBois, PA) with no AP classes as well as no Honors classes. I was projected that engineering would be too difficult for me and that I should pursue something less rigorous. I ended up graduating with a Honors degree in chemical engineering and a minor in mathematics from the Pennsylvania State University. I then received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University doing all of my research work with Sandia National Laboratories. I achieved these goals by setting high expectations for myself and striving every day to meet these expectations. I am a tutor that predominantly focuses on STEM and Business subjects from high school through graduate school as well as standardized tests. I really do not have a favorite subject here. I just enjoy teaching students who desire to learn and improve themselves. When I was an undergraduate student as well as a teaching assistant in graduate school teaching first semester students, I could take a person the night before the exam that had no clue of what was going on in class and help them achieve a B on the exam the next day. Standardized tests such as the SAT/ACT exam comprise various courses in high school and I cannot teach someone everything they need to know in one night or if a person is weeks behind in the understanding of the course material. Whether it is a standardized test or learning another subject; an assessment must be determined of where the student is currently in their understanding of the material. Next a game plan must be put together to get the student from where they are currently at to where they want to go. The fact of the matter is unless a student has always struggled in mathematics since kindergarten, they can achieve a perfect or near perfect score on the SAT/ACT mathematics section. The only traits that are required are a high level of expectations as well as the desire and effort to achieve those expectations. When it comes to solving problems, I will always ask the student on how they would solve a particular problem. Their answers can range that they definitely know how to solve it to they have absolutely no idea. I would then guide them along through each problem with the goal to have them understand a correct approach needed and to instill in the student a better understanding of the material as time goes along. As far as more information about myself, I am a person that enjoys learning and growing in all pursuits and my favorite hobby is working out and lifting weights at my local Planet Fitness. Additional Information: I am a STEM based tutor for Varsity Tutors in which I tutor everything from entry level to advanced subjects in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, all Engineering disciplines, and MBA courses. I am continuously adding both courses in an individual field as well as fields themselves to tutor. I tutor from 6th grade to graduate school as well as students with mental disabilities. I help students from inner city schools to the top boarding schools in the US to state public universities as well as the ivy league. I work with students at international universities along with international students in the US as well as adults going back to school.

I have been helping students understand calculus, improve their reading comprehension, and excel on assignments and tests for more than five years. I strive to not only prepare students to exceed academic standards but also to be critical thinkers and curious, well-informed human beings. I recently completed a dual degree at Indiana University and moved to New York to take a gap year before beginning graduate school. As a scholarship student at IU, I majored in economics, cognitive science, and piano performance. Outside of tutoring, you can find me playing or teaching piano, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching TED talks, running, or trying a new food or cooking technique.

I enjoy breaking things down and really helping people get a solid grasp of whatever concept I'm helping them with.I enjoy helping people with academic writing, including essays, research papers, and term papers. I have my BA in English, and I've been a technical writer for the past eight years.I also enjoy helping people in math subjects, including algebra and geometry. I find that it's very easy to fall behind in these subjects and once that happens, it can be very difficult for a student to catch up without a tutor.

I specialize in math, physics, and medicine, that's educational background, that's my teaching experience.Education transformed my humble upbringing and opened up the myriad of opportunities I have today. Tutoring and mentoring excites me because I feel that I am making a difference through empowering students the same way I became empowered. Not just relaying knowledge, but also understanding, self-reliance, confident problem-solving, and hopefully an appreciation for curiosity and learning. My background is in biomedical engineering at UT-Austin. I loved the math and physics side of things especially when they blend into human health. I pursued medical school afterward at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). While at BCM, I did a dual-degree MD/MBA and graduated in 2018, on track to ophthalmology training as my specialty. What this means for me as a tutor is that I developed skills on learning how to learn, and have done well on the many standardized exams and classes along the way and am able to relay those skills. Why am I a tutor? Ever since college, I've always loved to teach, mentor, and tutor. In fact, I tutored individuals and groups at the university (Sanger Learning Center) for 4 years. I eventually became the senior lead tutor and taught younger tutors on effective techniques and helped train them.My other influential experiences in the realm of tutoring and mentorship are in my volunteering and tennis activities. I coached medium to advanced players at the K-12 level, coaching groups at tennis camp every year for 3 years. I volunteered as mentor/academic coach/tutor for elementary school kids in an after school program, and also for junior high kids who are sick and have to miss significant amount of schooling.Right now is the perfect time for me to run forward with my tutoring passion. I have 12 weeks of vacation before residency begins and would love to help out where I can.Otherwise, I love to spend my time being active (camping/hiking/playing sports) and nerding out to things related to technological innovation. If you have questions or want to chat about career path, similar hobbies and interests (TENNIS!), or academic tutoring, just message me, I'd love to help out where I can. This is my linkedIn if you're curious about my professional background.https://www.linkedin.com/in/huy-nguyen-25ab1836/
