Texas has been my home for twenty-five years. I was born in Lexington, Kentucky, but moved to Round Rock, Texas after serving in the U.S. Navy. I hold a teaching certificate in Texas and Kentucky and have over ten years of experience teaching Spanish and French in both states.I hold a Ph.D. in Spanish and a B.A. in French and Spanish.Learning a language involves many skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Sometimes, grammar may be a stumbling block. Sometimes, it's reading comprehension. Or a student may need extra practice to prepare for AP exams I tailor tutoring sessions to fit the skill level of each student.In addition to Spanish and French, I tutor in Writing, Literature, Grammar and Mechanics. I am multi-published (young adult novels, short stories, biographies, and translations). Over the years, I have coached many new writers, both adults and young adults.In my free time (when I'm not writing), I like to swim, read, and play backgammon. I have three grown children, two cats, and two dogs.

I am a graduate of Northern Arizona University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education. Since graduation, I have been teaching for three years in the AZ public school system as a special education teacher. While I teach a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and History. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading that which enriches my life, spending time with family and friends, working out and watching football.

I graduated Cum Laude from Case Western Reserve University in 2013 with a B.A. in Psychology and minor in Marketing. I have always excelled in math and science courses, and in college, I tutored students in statistics and was a Teaching Assistant for Intro to Cognitive Science. I've also had many years of experience helping kids from elementary school to high school with their homework. When tutoring, I am to teach and guide students through problem-solving, without hand-holding. I'm very excited to be tutoring for Varsity Tutors!

As an educator since 2007, I am still proving daily that every person can excel beyond the limits that they set for themselves.I am a teacher who believes that a student's learning style is the foundation on which you build their conference to embrace other ways of learning.My students often place in the top percentile in regional examinations. As a result, 100% of my students enter the program of their choice or matriculate to graduation from their current program.My experience in the classroom, laboratory, field studies, and marking exam scripts have given me insight that will help my students prepare for their examinations as they continue to learn the subject content.

I've always been passionate about education. After discovering that I could combine corporate life and teaching, I went back to the classroom to share my passion for learning and experience the daily excitement of seeing students' progress. I now have the privilege of working one-to-one with extraordinary young people who are deeply determined to make the most of their education and make the absolute most of their potential.

I have always been passionate about helping others, whether through volunteering, working as an EMT, or coaching youth lacrosse. Tutoring, however, is one of my favorite outlets to help others because it is a journey that involves my students and I to work together to achieve their learning goals. I started tutoring in undergrad at Wheaton College in Massachusetts, where I graduated with a B.A. in Biochemistry. At Wheaton, I developed the philosophy that learning should be fun. In my tutoring sessions I like to take time to get to know the student before we jump into the material. Even as we work through the session, it is not uncommon to joke around and laugh. Currently I am tutoring Biology and Life Sciences which are my favorite subjects because they can be observed in everyday life! After receiving my MBA in Healthcare, I have had more time to spend on hobbies. In my newly acquired spare time, I enjoy being active outdoors, reading fiction, playing sports, and training for a triathlon.

I graduated high school with a class of 11, so all throughout elementary and high school I was asked by classmates to help with homework. I found that I was often able to explain concepts in a way that the teachers did not, so that my classmates could understand. And I enjoyed helping them, finding I had a talent at them and feeling a sense of satisfaction whenever I saw someone grasp a concept.I've been doing unofficial tutoring like that all throughout school, but have had some more formal experience as well. During high school, I volunteered in our elementary to help the kids with homework after school. I trained with the ACT prep club at my university to help high school students learn how to take the ACT as successfully as possible. I am also a teaching assistant for one of the psychology professors, and I help students in introduction to psychology learn concepts and prep for exams.I went to Lindsay Holy Family High School and am a junior at Creighton University, where I major in Psychology and Theology, with a minor in Spanish. I am working towards my BA.I tutor in ACT prep, various math classes (i.e. Algebra I and Geometry), Spanish, psychology, and essay editing. I really enjoy tutoring in psychology, since I am experienced with it and love the subject matter (obviously, as it is my major!).My teaching philosophy is to help the student to help themselves. I try to make sure someone has a good grasp on the concept, rather than just the single question, so that they can succeed on similar problems in the future. I try to explain something in as many different ways as necessary.I enjoy reading and running. I also like listening to K-pop and K-dramas. I am Roman Catholic and very involved in my parish, helping out with lecturing and other ministries.
