I care more about the people my students become than the scores on the tests they take.

I am an English instructor dedicated to enriching the lives of my students. I hold a BA in English Language and Literature from The University of Chicago and an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School. Over the years, I have merged my love of language and literature with my long-standing commitment to the welfare of children and young adults. In addition to tutoring, I have worked as a substitute teacher, classroom aide, afterschool mentor, and teaching artist. I have also recently served as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Taiwan. From these experiences, I have developed a fluid understanding of teaching methods and a keen sense of students' diverse learning styles. I can tutor various English subjects, such as PreK-12 ELA curricula, ELL literacy, composition, creative writing, and ESL (conversational English) instruction; I also offer writing support to new and prospective college students, helping them craft effective admissions essays and persuasive course papers. Essentially as an educator, I believe in fostering a holistic, student-centered teaching/learning environment that prioritizes curiosity, inquiry, critical thought, and conversation. I aim to actively inspire and empower my students, equipping them with the tools to thrive throughout their academic journey.

I graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in May of 2014. Now, as I begin my legal career, I'm eager to encourage and assist students in continuing their education and pursuing their dreams.Before law school, I taught classes and tutored at an after school program in Boston. While there, I developed and standardized curricula for ISEE preparation (6th grade), Mathematics (5th and 6th grades), English (5th and 6th grades), Physics (5th and 6th grades), comic design (5th and 6th grades), and Robotics (grades 5 through 8). I also reviewed homework and skill-built in areas of weakness for students (grades 3 through 12).In 2009, I worked for Huntington Learning Center where I tutored students in preparation for the SAT in Math, Reading, and Writing. I also tutored students in preparation for the ACT and high school Mathematics.I look forward to working with motivated students.

I love to help students realize their potential. I believe all children and teenagers can perform well in school if given proper support and encouragement from caring adults. Learning should be enjoyable, and not be made to seem like a chore. I incorporate fun and games into my tutoring activities whenever possible.I received excellent grades on all papers written at Duke University (master's degree) and Emory & Henry College (B.A.), and I can help high school and college students learn to write better papers. I am proficient at US History and can help an AP US History student towards a 4 or 5 on his or her exam. My concentration for both of my post-high school degrees was religion, and I would love to tutor students who are taking religion courses. My favorite hobby is reading, and I believe it is important to instill an enjoyment of reading in students as early as possible. I can help young people who need extra support to become better readers.I am reliable, easy to get along with, and I love kids! I work with children and teenagers in my primary job, and I am comfortable around kids of all ages. I have two daughters of my own so I know what it is like for parents to want the best for their children. Prior to teaching, I worked as a music therapist in a private practice serving children with developmental disabilities.I believe all students have the power to be successful students when provided with the right tools and supports. Throughout college I also volunteered at Girls, Inc. in their homework help room. My love of teaching started in high school when I was a peer tutor for the essential skills classroom. Currently, I teach special education and have experience with a various types of learners.

Education is the only way for people to move forward in any area of life. Education is a universal commodity that causes us to transform our lives into something useful. It is the highway to new discoveries and sets the foundation for new paths. Being inspired by my teachers, I decided to devote my life to teaching and developing new techniques of teaching and learning that's helpful for others in our diverse world. As a high school student, I decided to go into the health occupations vocational program because I wanted to help others. As a college student, I decided to become a teacher because it suited my passion, mission (to help others) and matched well with my personality. Through my efforts I wanted lives to be enriched, and sometimes totally chanced because of our encounters. As an educator I have seen so many lives enhanced through education, individual accountability, and firm concern. As an administrator I have seen many adults and students lives enriched because I merely cared and would not give up on them. As a tutor I will do my very best to continue helping others by utilizing teaching strategies learned in the past 11 years.

By helping adolescents to define themselves based on their own talents and a valuable self-worth instead of trying to meet someone else's expectations, we can build students' confidence and academic success. We all have the right and responsibility to accept ourselves by defining who we are on our own terms and knowing what we stand for. This intricate balance can be achieved through increasing the availability and visibility of positive role models, advocating for participation in extracurricular activities, and educating students about goal setting and having high expectations for themselves.
