Hi! I am a master's student in computer science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I graduated from UMass with a bachelor's in computer science in 2020, and have been studying computer science since before college. I have prior experience as a tutor in my university's tutoring center for 3 years, and I am available to tutor basic math and most levels of computer science.

My inspiration to become a teacher stems from the impact that teachers had in my life. I found that I was most successful when teachers treated me as an individual and took an interest in my life and learning style. This philosophy guides me as a teacher. I provide individualized instruction based on a student's strengths and needs. There is no one size fits all approach in education. I have extensive experience teaching science to special education students. I have found that the strategies that make these students successful work for all students. As a classroom teacher, I have worked with students with ranging abilities from kindergarten to twelfth grade. I also have extensive experience working with students on organization, writing skills, and essay development. I thoroughly enjoy the challenges of teaching and watching students thrive and grow as learners.

In addition, I had the chance to travel as an international expedition guide in Central American and Africa with high school students, with a focus on history, anthropology, writing, and sociology. In my near-decade of classroom instruction, I have taught all levels of English in high school and AP Literature. I love teaching and creating engaging lessons for my students. It is rewarding to watch students grow as readers and writers throughout the year. Being an English major at Wingate University has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had, and it has influenced me to want to help others enjoy the language and literary materials that are available in the world as much as I enjoy them. English can be a difficult subject for some and I want to help them understand the difficulties, as well as enjoy the wonders embedded in various literature. Of course there is literature that can be dry, but there is so much out there that is wonderful and engaging. You just have to look for it. The English language is one of the most difficult languages to understand, but approaching it from a different perspective is what helps it make sense. My goal is to apply language to everyday use, which is the tactic that seems to help others grasp harder concepts. It can be challenging, but that is half the fun when it comes to English. There is so much potential waiting to be attained. You only have to listen to someone speak or open a book to begin understanding and appreciating English.

As my children reached school-age I made the decision to home-educate them. I have been teaching my own children for 10 years now and currently teach all subjects at the 5th and 8th grade levels. While homeschooling my children, I continue to tutor other students as well.
