I have a Bachelor of Arts from Spelman College and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.I fell in love with reading when I was two years old; more than two decades later, books continue to be my greatest passion and purest joy.My goal as a tutor is to be the bridge between my students Nd their learning/academic goals.I designed my own LSAT curriculum from a diverse body of prep materials, that I continuously update and improve/adjust based on my actual students' responses and feedback during our sessions. After spending a few decades in the manufacturing sector, I decided to come back to the field of education in order to contribute to posterity. Besides tutoring, I presently teach reading and writing at a major college. Additionally, my experience in the teaching field includes having taught middle school English in a Charter school. I also taught students in the Department of Juvenile Justice Services of a large municipality where I tutored students who had been arrested and had dropped out of high school. I taught and mentored these students, which culminated in them receiving a high school diploma from the state. One of my specialties is preparing students for critical tests. My concentration is in teaching English with an emphasis in writing and reading. My expertise includes teaching grammar including sentence structure, organization, and mechanics. I also concentrate on style, writing an essay, revising, and editing. My reading experience includes interpreting and analyzing informational text and reading literature. Moreover, I assess and teach student needs in comprehension, vocabulary, fluency prosody, and fluency accuracy. My hobbies include reading, jogging, kayaking, scuba diving, and playing the guitar.

My fervent interest in Science and compassion for people and community earned me a Medical degree in 2010. I have since had the opportunity to use my skills and education helping people in the Accident and Emergency department as a Junior Physician. Currently, I am preparing to take my United States Medical Licensing Examinations. I also hold a Bachelor's of Science in Biology, which I obtained from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.Throughout my years in college and medical school, I have always enjoyed helping my peers and juniors to understand new and difficult topics. I enjoy finding fun and efficient ways of teaching those concepts and it brings me a great deal of satisfaction when they master it. One such way is associating what is being taught to a real world scenario. When we make a connection between the real world and academics, we better appreciate and understand the material being covered.When I am not busy getting up to date with my medical knowledge, I enjoy playing with my 15 month old son. It's a joy to see him learn and do something different every day. Of course I also leave time for exercise, watching comedies, and watching professional basketball.I look forward to tutoring Sciences such as, Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology. In May 2020, I graduated from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English & Media and Communication with a minor in Italian language studies. As a tutor at my college, I worked with students ranging from recent high school graduates to graduate students. Over the course of my four years as a tutor, I was able to form rapports with many students, whom I would see from week to week, semester to semester, and even year to year. Watching these students progress has fueled my zeal for tutoring, which all starts on day one with each new student. As an English major, I am incredibly passionate about reading, writing, and the teaching of English itself. My tutoring career formally began six years ago--since then, I have been gradually developing my own personalized collection of tips and tools for effective learning in a large range of disciplines.My journey began in high school as a tutor for a handful of middle school students struggling with mathematics. The private sessions instilled within me an appreciation for the power of conceptual connections. I found that each individual student's network of knowledge was vastly different, and so the connections they drew in order to arrive at solutions differed as well. It became my goal and pleasure to guide these students along their own intellectual pathways towards a better understanding.During my undergraduate career at the University of Texas at Dallas, I continued to fortify this skill. Employed by the on-campus Student Success Center as both a Peer Tutor and Supplemental Instruction Leader, I led sessions for advanced engineering mathematics, statics and dynamics, mechanics of materials, physics, and calculus. Through these programs, I was introduced to new methods for helping students attain their own understanding of course materials with only minimal guidance from myself. These methods relied upon the fact that, oftentimes, students already possess the foundational knowledge to arrive at correct conclusions--they simply lack the confidence and/or the roadmaps to get there. That's where I come in.After finishing my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering last May, I moved back to the Raleigh-Durham area to continue my education at Duke University for an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. As aforementioned, much of my tutoring experience has been in STEM fields (calculus, physics, chemistry, etc.)--but as a student who has prepared for, agonized over, and ultimately suffered through the SAT and GRE standardized tests, I would love to be able to impart my own knowledge and strategies for these as well.If it's nice out and I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.

Consulting in several industries gave me broad exposure to real-world problems and a work ethic that may serve as a role model. I learned to listen to problems and come up with creative and practical solutions. As a trainer and pre-sales engineer, I co-wrote a tutorial, created class materials, and made many technical presentations about "leading edge" software, and so became skilled at explaining complex concepts. My work in QA reinforced my obsession with quality and gave me a good eye for seeing and diagnosing errors, which applies to student errors and misunderstandings.I have tutored on and off since my college days, in math, science and ESL. I approach tutoring with a positive attitude, a good ear for listening, patience, respect, and humor. I have a bias toward deep understanding rather than rote memorization.
