Test Prep Tutoring review by Erica in Boston, MA
The student and I continued working through her test prep book, reviewing key terms/people/vocabulary as well as multiple choice practice questions. We worked through four chapters, covering material from Washington's presidency, Jefferson & the Louisiana Purchase, the War of 1812, the Missouri Compromise and the early railroad. We also discussed connections between this time period in history and modern day (topics such as federal judges, impeachment, constitutional/unconstitutional, etc.).

Test Prep Tutoring review by Jaclyn in Boston, MA
We covered a bit of the Science he had done for homework, and he is doing much better than where he started. We also covered a few math topics he had forgotten how to do, like trig and some advanced algebra, though he seems to be pretty good with math. After that, we briefly touched on Reading so he has some direction before he takes a full test for homework.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Michael in Boston, MA
The student and I practiced an ACT reading test. The first two passages were good practice because they contained a lot of questions that were ambiguous and picky. The student and I also discussed strategies on preparing for his timed essay coming up on Friday. He is very well written but feels less confident under pressure.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Paul in Boston, MA
The student wrote a response to a sample SAT prompt this week and produced a solid essay that was structurally sound with good language and tone of voice. However, it needed a little more strength in ideas and idea development. I am trying to help the student become more confident in choosing examples to support her theses. We then went through some multiple-choice practice, which the student excels at, but we still need to work on her time management and overall speed. I am having her write me an essay for next week and having her complete a timed multiple-choice reading section to get a better idea of how she would perform without me looking over her shoulder. Overall, this was a good session and I really appreciate the student's level of effort and attention while we are working!

Test Prep Tutoring review by Taylor in Boston, MA
The student was quite proficient and fast, so we frequently ended up skipping directly to the harder sections. We identified a few potential trip-ups and practiced the troublesome problems with new numbers or new twists. Most challenging were ratios under operations, abstract geometric relations (i.e. relating perimeter to area), and algebra problems requiring compounding or relabeling.
