Today we covered topics for the placement exam. We focused on taking the test under timed conditions. We focused on test-taking strategies that will help save time on his exam. This includes focusing on your strengths and doing those questions first, and for main idea problems the answer is in the first/ last sentence of the passage. The student and I worked on organizing her work for each class she has a final exam in and on determining how many hours will be needed for each class. We spent the most time organizing for her American History class, as this class is covering the most content. Her study packet for U.S. History was completed today, and she will spend some time this afternoon studying it.

We talked about strategies for learning vocabulary in AP Geography and also how to read the chapter while taking quick notes to help with recall and comprehension. With both students, I taught them how to use the Google calendar app so they can organize when things are due and also how to set reminders. Student A doesn't have any homework to complete this weekend, and Student B needs to read part of chapter 8 and learn the flashcards for his AP geography class. At the end, their mom said that Student B was excited about the new strategies and thinks it's "awesome." They are great students to tutor. I'm really enjoying it!

Today we started with some particular subject matter that was a challenge for the student this past week. We covered pre-calculus problems focused on manipulating trigonometric graphs and economics problems focused on shifting supply and demand curves. Then we moved on to his approach for an upcoming pre-calculus test. We discussed his need for a structured approach to his studying, what materials he can use and the importance of setting up a timeline for himself. We also explored a few free resources that he can use across many of his classes when he's trying to help himself understand material.

The student had several tests last week. Our work on the Punnett squares last week paid off; he did really well on his biology test. We went over his geometry test and he understands his mistakes now. He is retaking it for a higher grade. He needs to put things into his planner, and I have pushed him to be more organized.
