I am a rising fourth-year medical student at Perelman SOM at the University of Pennsylvania currently taking time off from school. I am a Yale 2014 graduate (B.S. in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry). I spent my gap year doing wet lab research in a biochemistry lab at the main NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, My parents are both university math professors with a natural gift for teaching that I believe they passed on to me. I hope to apply for residency in Internal Medicine or Psychiatry and down the line in my career to teach medical students while practicing in and academic or private-practice setting. I specialize in MCAT testing but am hoping to tutor for the SAT as well, and possibly AP exams. In my free time I enjoy rock climbing, running, working out, playing video games, and dabbling in random hobbies (most recently crochet!).

I am dedicated to helping both struggling and thriving students excel in the subject in question. While I will work closely with my tutees, I will never just tell them how to answer a problem. Making sure the student is able to solve the problem on his own and understand why this method of solution works is how the subjects can be mastered. Hobbies: writing, books, music, art, sports, reading

I'm just not very good at it." People tend to not be very excited about topics that they don't understand. Teachers and grades have been making them feel bad whenever they come to class, and there is nothing more frustrating than studying for hours and still not getting any concept. These sorts of things can make someone feel defeated or unintelligent. To that end, the simplest way to get a student to become excited about learning is to counteract these negative effects with healthier, positive learning strategies. When students seriously get something, don't move on immediately to the next topic, but instead dwell on what they get for a while, solidifying it and making them feel intelligent and like future concepts are within their grasp. Build pride in each student for the progress and work they complete so that they are eager to master each concept. In addition, to get students more engaged in topics, I try to emphasize the real-world applications of anything I teach. As an applied mathematics major, I can appreciate more than most how the subjects people study can affect the real world. So when students groan "When am I ever going to have to use this?" I can actually give a satisfying answer that will make them realize how powerful what they learn really is. This tends to make students less dismissive and care a lot more about the concepts at hand. While I can't promise that these methods will make a student love their school subjects as much as sports or video games, they tend to make them appreciate and care about the material as well as feel validated by it. In turn, this leads to a much more serious and sustained effort and enjoyment of the subject.

I am a 2014 graduate of Cornell University's College of Engineering where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Engineering. I have just begun my Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University. My favorite subjects to tutor include Test Prep and elementary/middle school subjects. I enjoy helping younger students so that they can be excited about learning and begin their education with a solid foundation in reading, writing, and mathematics. I believe it is important to provide students with the proper tools to succeed at a young age so that they continue to have a desire to learn for the rest of their lives. I loved my college experience and want to show high school students that with practice and diligence, they too can perform well on standardized tests and go on to the university of their choosing. To accomplish academic goals at any level, it is important for the student to have fun while learning! I personalize my teaching approach to fit the student's learning style so that he or she can easily transition from learning a concept to applying it to a given problem. The greatest reward is seeing the smile on a student's face when a topic "clicks".

I am a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania pursuing a Masters in International Educational Development. I graduated from Stetson University with my BA in 2017, and since then have worked in inner city schools. The last two years, I have taught Algebra and Geometry at a charter high school, while managing a math tutorial program within the school. I find great joy is setting students up for success and helping them achieve the utmost in school. I do not only focus on student academic performance, but also on their social-emotional well-being, so they may attain a positive mindset of their day-to-day learning. I have 10 years experience working with elementary kids, including assisting with homeschooling. However, I am more passionate about helping students understand higher levels of mathematics. I am a believer in quality education, that's why I make sure to create an engaging learning environment for my students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Allentown has 8 school districts serving over 27,000 students across 44 schools, and Varsity Tutors connects students from all of them with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends Allentown School District, Parkland, Emmaus, or another district in the area, we can match them with a tutor who understands their specific curriculum and academic needs.

Allentown students frequently seek help in math, English/language arts, and standardized test prep (SAT and ACT). Many also benefit from tutoring in science and foreign languages, particularly as they prepare for Pennsylvania state assessments and college entrance exams. A tutor can assess your student's specific challenges and create a focused plan to build confidence and skills.

With an average student-teacher ratio of 14.7:1 across Allentown schools, many students benefit from one-on-one attention outside the classroom. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows a tutor to focus entirely on your student's learning style, fill knowledge gaps, and move at their own pace—something that's difficult in a traditional classroom setting.

The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's academic goals, current challenges, and learning style. They'll assess where your student stands in their subject area and discuss a personalized plan moving forward. This foundation helps ensure the tutoring is targeted and effective from day one.

Tutors are familiar with Pennsylvania's academic standards and work with students to master the skills and content required at each grade level. Whether your student needs support with PSSA preparation, course content, or building foundational skills, a tutor can align instruction with what's expected in Pennsylvania schools.

You'll see progress through improved grades, stronger test scores, and increased confidence in your student's work. A good tutor communicates regularly about what they're working on and shares specific examples of improvement. Many parents notice their student is more engaged with schoolwork and less frustrated after a few weeks of consistent tutoring.

Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have strong subject knowledge and experience teaching. Each tutor is carefully selected based on their expertise and ability to work effectively with students. When we match your student with a tutor, we consider both academic qualifications and teaching style to ensure a good fit.

Simply reach out to Varsity Tutors and let us know your student's grade level, subject, and goals. We'll match them with a tutor who's a good fit and can begin personalized instruction. The process is straightforward, and you can start seeing results quickly with consistent, focused support.
