As a child, one of my favorite games was to pretend to be a teacher. I never thought that what started as a game was going to become my current profession. I was born in Peru and I lived there until I graduated from college. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. After graduation, I moved to United States and started working as a teacher assistant in a middle school. After one semester working, I was offered a position to teach Spanish. Even thought I was hesitant about accepting the position, I knew that the opportunity was offered to me for a reason; therefore, I decided to take the position. Seven years later, I am still teaching and learning from this beautiful profession. During my seven years of experience, I attended Fayetteville State University where I obtained my Spanish teaching license. I have taught Spanish in middle school and early college. During this time, I also had the opportunity to tutor English as a second language (ESL) and Biology. I am currently working on one of the best early colleges in North Carolina, we were honored to receive a blue ribbon award last year. I am also pursuing a second Bachelor's degree focused in Biology. I feel that the double role I have as a teacher and student, allows me to stay grounded and remember what is it like to be a student. My teaching style adapts to my student's goals, and their previous knowledge. I like to implement teaching activities where students can put in practice what they have learned, therefore, a holistic and scenario-based approach is where I notice more growth when learning a language. My daily tasks ranged from sketching and designing interfaces, to planning sitemaps and experiences, to developing sites in HTML5 / CSS / JavaScript, to animating in Flash, to creating custom content management systems for clients in PHP and MySQL.While I've been teaching web and interactive design since 2002, since 2011 I've been doing so almost exclusively. My full time position was at The Art Institute of New York City, but I taught additional adjunct classes at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York City College of Technology (City Tech), and York College.

I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2021 (A-Whoop!) with a degree in elementary education. I recently finished my first year of teaching at Mill Street Elementary in LISD as a 5th grade teacher. I have always loved teaching. It is a joy to get to know my students, their interests and motivations, and to walk alongside them as a helpmate. I have been tutor with Varsity Tutors for over a year, and volunteered as a tutor with the National Honor Society and Let's Get Ready - an organization that offers free SAT-prep for underserved youth. I love to tutor in social studies, humanities, and life sciences, and have a lot of experience in tutoring for AP and SAT tests. My basic outlook on education is that 1. Everyone is intelligent and capable of learning 2. People have diverse interests and passions 3. Everyone learns in a unique way. If we spend our time following our passions and figuring out what learning style works best for us, than our education can be transformative. One of the primary problems of our education system is the lack of individualized learning time, and personal relationship building between teacher and student. I think we tend to use a one size fits all approach with education because our schools and teachers don't have the time or resources to respond to the needs of every student. It also shows that math can be just plain cool, which I don't think our curricula prioritize enough.Besides teaching, I enjoy practicing parkour and tricking (acrobatic martial arts), playing video games, and reading fiction.
