I first became interested in teaching and tutoring when I was a high school student taking an abundance of AP courses. Though these courses successfully prepared me for my college education, I felt that I could have benefited from tutoring myself. When I entered college, I initially enrolled hoping to pursue a degree in social studies education. However, through my coursework and study, I began to focus more on history and chose to change my major to history and my minor to classics. Throughout this transition, I have never lost my interest in teaching and education. My Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Gustavus Adolphus College has instilled in me a love of learning, skills in critical thinking, composition, writing, editing and much more. These skills, though not the main focus of my major, became the core of understanding for me throughout my education. Upon completion of my degree in May of 2016, I chose to pursue a gap year of service working with Minnesota Reading Corps, a division of AmeriCorps, as an elementary literacy tutor. In this role, I gained training in tutoring and developed skills that have helped me to better understand how to reach students.Beginning in the Fall of 2017, I will be pursuing a masters degree in Museum Studies from John's Hopkins University's Advanced Academic Programs department. Through this degree, I hope one day to become a curator at a history museum. This role would allow me to utilize my love of both history and educating the public.

I recently relocated to Atlanta from Washington, DC, where I worked for several nonprofit organizations in both leading and supportive capacities. Over a period of two years, I worked with architecture and design students and recent graduates across the country. I visited nearly forty colleges and universities, encouraging students to engage their communities and find new ways to apply the knowledge and skills they acquire in the classroom.I am currently the Editor-in-Chief of Crit, the Journal of the American Institute of Architecture Students, a national peer-reviewed publication in which high school, college, and graduate students publish their written and design work. I also work as a college essay editor for an educational consultant based in Philadelphia. I am preparing applications to dual-degree graduate programs in city planning and law.I consider "co-learning" to be the most appropriate educational context, rather than a "master-apprentice" situation in which a student passively absorbs information. I seek to engage students in an active and participatory process, in which they consider me as an equal participant. Through critical dialogue, I seek to challenge students' perceptions and help them overcome barriers.I truly value knowledge and I am constantly seeking new opportunities to learn. I seek to strike a balance in life between work and leisure, sternness and light-heartedness, seriousness and whimsy. I understand well the pressures and stresses that students face, and I hope to alleviate some of these stresses on students' path to success.

I believe in the power of mindset and high expectations. The two combined can result in transformation that is exceedingly and abundantly more than we could ever imagine. My purpose as a teacher is to facilitate learning that expands a student's world by exposing him/her to content that opens up opportunities of learning. As a teacher, I prioritize my instruction to be centered around the student and the student's needs. My style is fun, engaging, and rigorous, and my drive as an instructor is rooted in the success and achievements of my students. My philosophy of teaching is simple: what are your needs and how can I help you achieve them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Henderson's 64 schools with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a school in the Green Valley area, the newer developments, or anywhere else in Henderson, we match them with tutors who understand Nevada's curriculum standards and can support their specific academic goals.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 21.2:1 in Henderson schools, many students benefit from one-on-one attention that classroom settings can't always provide. Personalized tutoring fills that gap by giving your student dedicated time to work through challenging concepts, ask questions without hesitation, and build confidence in their learning—something that's difficult to achieve in larger classes.
Henderson students typically seek tutoring in math, science, and English—especially during transitions between grade levels and when preparing for state assessments. We also see strong demand for algebra support, chemistry, and reading comprehension, as well as test prep for the ACT and SAT. Tutors can help with any subject your student is studying, tailored to Nevada's academic standards.
The first session is designed to build rapport and assess your student's strengths and challenges. The tutor will ask about their learning style, current coursework, specific struggles, and goals—whether that's improving a grade, preparing for a test, or mastering a particular concept. This foundation helps create a personalized plan that addresses exactly what your student needs.
Tutors working with Henderson students are familiar with Nevada's academic standards and curriculum expectations across grade levels. They can help students master state-tested content, prepare for Nevada's assessments, and develop the skills needed to succeed in Nevada's schools. Whether your student needs to catch up or get ahead, tutoring is aligned with what's expected in Nevada classrooms.
Tutoring pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and your student's specific needs. We work with families to find options that fit their budget, and many families find that personalized tutoring is an investment that pays off quickly through improved grades and confidence. Contact us to discuss your situation and get pricing information tailored to what your student needs.
Absolutely. Tutoring sessions can be scheduled around your family's commitments—whether that's after school, evenings, weekends, or during school breaks. We work with you to find times that work, so tutoring enhances your student's learning without adding stress to your family's routine.
Personalized tutoring addresses the root of your student's struggles rather than just covering material. A tutor can identify whether the issue is a gap in foundational skills, a learning style mismatch with how the material is being taught, or simply needing more time to process concepts. With one-on-one support, your student can rebuild confidence, fill knowledge gaps, and develop strategies that help them succeed—often leading to noticeable grade improvements within weeks.
