As some say, teachers are not and should not be the individuals who end up being in this profession because of being unable to find "other" jobs. I think this approach has some indirect messages to all teachers and puts a huge responsibility on our shoulders to prove that students we are responsible...

Monica

10th Grade Writing Tutor • +26 Subjects

Hello, my name is Monica and one of my favorite things to do is to tutor and teach! I wake up every day enthusiastic to learn and contribute to a greater world. I have been tutoring for a long time. I am the oldest child and I have 2 younger siblings who I teach everything I learn. We are older now, so I do not get as much time to hang out with them as they are onto their own schooling and work. I graduated undergrad with a BA in Psychology and Minor in Business. I love the sciences as I think it is fascinating what we and the world are made of, and to learn about these things, gives us a better understanding of who we are and where we are headed. I also spent a few years working as an accountant. After I saved up enough money to help my family out, I went back to school to get a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Premedical Sciences. I also am an EMT. I have worked on the ambulances and in the hospitals and I find taking care of others extremely rewarding. For the next few years, I will be attending medical school. Along this entire journey, I have been tutoring students of a wide span of ages, from middle school to high school to college to adult (students in my own classes). I have a tremendous amount of patience combined with a goal-oriented mentality. I find a ton of joy in teaching others the things I've learned. I understand every student is different, so I approach every student differently depending on their needs and persona. I want every student I come in contact with to find the joy and realization of how enjoyable education truly is.

Arianna

Creative Writing Tutor • +11 Subjects

Hello! My name is Arianna Miles and I have my B.A. in Criminology/Criminal Justice with a minor in Legal Studies. Throughout my academic years, I have always been praised for my exceptional reading and writing skills. Which, I've always found to be ironic because growing up I HATED writing and anything to do with it. I would dreaddd the days when the teacher would give us a random prompt to write or no prompt at all (yikes!). However, once I really honed in on my writing skills and what forms of writing were actually pleasurable for me, everything changed! One of my strong suits has always been organization byways of my study skills, methods, and preparation. I made an outline and study guide for everything! I then began making study guides for my classmates as well because they saw the success I was gaining from organizing and optimizing my notes for maximum understanding and to ace exams. During my time at William Paterson University, I was nominated by my professor for a writing competition, Writing Across the Curriculum, for my outstanding research paper on Human/S*x Trafficking in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Although I didn't win this national competition, the nomination alone really gave me the confirmation I needed in regards to my writing skills.
