I am a Communications Major with a penchant for reading, writing, some math, and film! (I picked up a Cinema Studies Minor as well) I used to be an editor in a few newspapers, so I love working with others to improve their writing skills. I have tutored many areas in both high school and college and have coached softball to girls of many ages. I especially love helping students master their test-taking skills, because I understand what it was like having to navigate such a high pressure environment! Providing just a few tools can make a world of difference.

I am a huge component of constant feedback. A session may be wasted if feedback is only provided in the last five minutes. For this reason, I would help students stay motivated by maintaining a conversation over the material and relating to other interesting aspects of their life. Hobbies: books, reading, writing, music, art, sports

I am able to determine what obstacles are preventing a student from grasping a concept, and create different means of overcoming those obstacles. Creating a partnership with the student and understanding what he or she needs to overcome is what makes me a great tutor.

I am an undergraduate at Rice University, and my favorite subjects to tutor are math and science. I also enjoy doing test prep, and my experience comes from helping fellow students in high school. One of the most important aspects of tutoring is fitting the teaching style to each student. One method that works great for one student may not work well for another. Tutoring is all about coming up with different ways for my students to understand the material. If my student is not interested in the subject we are learning, I will try to find a way to tie in their interests and passions into the subject to better engage them. I want to be there for my students, not only as a tutor, but also as a friend. In addition to my interests in math and science (and learning in general), I enjoy swimming, biking, reading, and cooking. I also believe that fostering curiosity and determination are the keys to success. Hobbies: art, books, reading, cooking, music, swimming, writing

I am a science writer and podcaster with a rigorous academic background who is passionate about sharing my knowledge of chemistry with curious minds. I earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and Asian art history from UC Berkeley and completed a PhD in inorganic chemistry at MIT. I have five years of experience teaching college-level general and organic chemistry courses at various institutions in California, Massachusetts, New York, and Texas, and hope to expand on my experience as a private tutor. Often a required subject for other classes, chemistry is often considered "the central science" as it's related to biology and physics, and I appreciate that chemical principles can be observed throughout daily life from cooking to medicine to electronics. I believe that education is the world's greatest social equalizer and hope that my students learn to make new connections between classes and other aspects of their life. Outside of science, I love dogs, food, and the outdoors.

I am a graduate from Stanford University. I received my Bachelor's in Economics there and continued to receive a certificate in Full Stack Web Development from the University of Texas Austin. I have tutored intermittently, primarily teaching test prep; however, I have at different points taught most everything. Here in the Houston area, I've worked with Testmasters, C2 Education and Test Geek. I implement the Socratic Method into my teaching style: I ask plenty of questions that force students to deeply understand the material and to explain how they know why their answer is correct or not. I also believe it is my duty to equip students with tools to become better learners themselves which entails welcoming unique and creative approaches to solving problems, encouraging students to connect the relationships between different topics and subjects, and recommending using external sources and materials to learn and supplement understanding. Hobbies: art, travel, sports, reading, writing, books, traveling, music

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across all three of Bryan's school districts with personalized 1-on-1 instruction. Whether your student attends schools in Bryan ISD, College Station ISD, or another local district, we match them with tutors who understand the specific curriculum and academic standards they're working with.
Tutors work with students on Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards across core subjects like math, reading, science, and social studies. With over 16,000 students across Bryan's schools, many benefit from personalized support to master grade-level TEKS objectives and prepare for state assessments like STAAR.
Bryan students frequently seek help with math (especially algebra and geometry), reading comprehension, and science—subjects that build foundational skills for success in high school and beyond. We also support students preparing for AP exams, SAT/ACT college entrance tests, and advanced coursework across all academic levels.
The first session is a chance for the tutor and student to get to know each other and identify specific academic goals. The tutor will assess your student's current understanding, discuss challenges they're facing, and create a personalized plan to address those areas—whether it's catching up, getting ahead, or building confidence in a particular subject.
Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have subject expertise and experience working with students at various levels. All tutors go through a vetting process to ensure they're qualified to teach their subjects and can create effective learning experiences tailored to each student's needs.
Even with a 13:1 student-teacher ratio in Bryan schools, personalized 1-on-1 instruction offers unique advantages—tutors can focus entirely on your student's specific learning style, pace, and gaps without managing a classroom. This individualized attention helps students work through challenging concepts more quickly and build confidence in ways that larger classroom settings can't always provide.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions you choose. To get started, you'll connect with Varsity Tutors to discuss your student's needs and goals, and we'll match them with an appropriate tutor. You can then schedule sessions that fit your family's schedule and budget.
Many students see improvement in confidence and understanding within the first few sessions, though academic results depend on the subject, starting point, and consistency of tutoring. Most students benefit from regular, ongoing sessions—whether weekly or multiple times per week—combined with practice between sessions for the best outcomes.
