I am a Chemical Engineering student at ASU, and I have been tutoring since I graduated high school in 2012. It is my goal to help students succeed in math, science, and standardized tests. My experience, knowledge, and patient teaching style have helped many students better understand challenging concepts.

I have been a middle school math teacher for the past three years. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Major in History. I will be attending Lipscomb University starting the fall of 2015 to gain a Masters in Education. After college I served in the Peace Corps in the West African Country of Burkina Faso. I am extremely passionate about education. My favorite subjects are Math, Geography, and History. In my spare time I like to do fun outdoor activities, such as, biking, hiking, snorkeling, and swimming.

My name is Danielle and I recently moved to Chicago where I have completed my coursework in becoming a full-time teacher and have passed all necessary professional knowledge and subject exams. My certification comes from Rio Salado College in Phoenix, Arizona. While waiting for my teaching license I have utilize this time productively by becoming a substitute teacher. As a substitute teacher, I have gained further experience and knowledge in regards to helping students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. Not only did I serve as the instructor when the teacher was absent, I also spent time providing one-on-one support and instruction.Throughout my courses and time substituting, I have learned that as a teacher you need to able to adapt to your student's needs. To help overcome this challenge I utilized my strength and ability to think outside of the box to provide the assistance and instruction necessary for success. With this ability, I have been able to look at the big picture and adapt myself so not to conform to the saying "one size fits all". Instead I have been able to adapt myself and think outside of the box to help those students who may need special assistance or even just additional help. It is this ability that has made me successful, as both a student teacher and substitute teacher, as it allowed me to ensure each student had the understanding of concepts before moving forward.Another challenge that I have noticed throughout my observation that as students it is easy to be overlooked. It is my mission to see that none of my students fall through the cracks and are provided the necessary remediation, distinction, and extension for success. One way I will help achieve that goal is to be the influential individual that I know I am. With this behavior, I will make sure that no student is left behind as we begin our trek up the mountain of education. And to help keep the students' enthusiasm about their education we will celebrate "wins" along the way.I look forward to this experience ahead and serving as a tutor for all future students.

Without that person who helped me through those difficult years, I would not be tutoring today. I have ten years plus of teaching experience and love working with all kinds of students especially younger kids in secondary and primary school. I graduated from Montana State University with a master's degree in Mathematics with a minor in education and have taught in more than five different countries. I received my Masters degree in Humanities with a focus in Cinema and Media Studies from the University of Chicago. Before earning my Masters degree, I attended the University of Louisville, where I received my Bachelors of Art in Humanities with a minor in Film Studies. During my time at the University of Louisville, I pursued a variety of different majors, in French, Philosophy, Math and Physics due to the diverse range of my passions, and finally settled on the Humanities because it allowed me to study all of them at once. I am most passionate about teaching anything within the Arts (e.g. Literature), French language and culture, and the purer side of Mathematics, where the abstractions of numbers give us the freedom to do with them what we will. I also love helping students work their way through the daunting task of preparing for standardized tests. I have often found that my past students have gotten tangled in the problems that have been set out for them, and I have always found success in teaching the conceptual framework behind these problems, so that they learn to find solutions by whatever means they prefer. As indicated by my degrees at the beginning, I am incredibly passionate about film and film studies I am a huge movie buff. But perhaps the most important thing I can say about myself is that I don't believe that any subject is out of reach for any student. It's just about finding a way through the jargon to something that makes sense.

From 2011-2015, I attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. There I pursued two degrees, one in early childhood education and the other in elementary education. I also am very interested in bilingual and multicultural education. I have been working professionally with students of all ages since 2015, teaching both in traditional US classroom settings and abroad both in person and online. My strongest areas of study are English, math, writing and reading. I very much enjoy science and history as well. I graduated from James Madison Preparatory School in 2010. I was a member of the basketball team, softball team, drum-line, choir, orchestra, student government, and Academic Decathlon! I continued my education at Mesa Community College where I received an Associate's Degree in Science with High Distinction in December of 2013. During my studies at Mesa Community College I also completed their Honors Program. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Biology at Arizona State University. (Go Sun Devils!)While I was attending Mesa Community College I tutored in their math department. Although this is my only direct experience in paid tutoring I would call my self a constant tutor. In classroom situations I naturally assume any leadership roles that are needed, in whatever capacity that I am capable of. I feel fulfilled when I am able to assist a peer in understanding difficult concepts. In addition, my mom recently returned to school, and has required a great deal of my help in returning to the classroom after 30 years of purely real world experience.I tutor biology up to college level, high school chemistry, evolution, genetics, pre-algebra, and algebra 1, 2, 3-4.I absolutely love tutoring algebra, it is the subject that I am the most coherent in teaching. The fantastic thing about tutoring math is that it is similar to helping someone solve a puzzle. My true love, academically, is biology! I am quite proudly known in social circles as a "Nerd", mainly for my spontaneous placement of scientific tid-bits in otherwise ordinary conversation.I believe that every person's learning style is as unique as their fingerprint; so needless to say some of us can get left behind in class. Math and science require a significant amount of mental commitment to genuinely understand. Today's learning environment can make it incredibly difficult to put forth the proper commitment, and that's where I come in! I am so passionate about helping other people understand math and science, the moment a student's face lights up with understanding is what I live for!
