Differential Equations Tutoring review by Dae in Paramount, CA
The student's Algebra final is on Monday, so we did some pretty intensive review for the exam. We spent a fair amount of time working on graphing of functions and finding functions when provided limited information. He seems much more confident with graphing quadratics and absolute value equations, and I am seeing serious improvement. I also saw some serious improvement with finding functions when given points and/or a vertex. Quadratic equations that don't follow the normal format are still difficult, but we outlined what we're looking for in solving and graphing (h&k, axis of symmetry, x and y intercepts, etc.) which seemed to help. We also covered solving for and factoring cubed equations, which he had some difficulty with, but outlining the basic factoring process seemed to help.

Today the student and I did a homework problem set her teacher gave her. We focused on converting decimals to fractions, and fractions to decimals. After a couple of practice problems in each section of the chapter, she became much more comfortable with the conversions. She asked for help with remembering which number to put under the division bar, so I told her to memorize that.

We went over the rest of her study guide through the unit four questions (since we have already covered this). We then started going over her unit three exam, specifically the graphing questions. I taught her how to find the first derivative, so she could find the points where the function changes direction when graphing (local extrema).

We covered the student's homework and talked about her study habits today. She is working on her flashcards. She's been given a game plan for her individual subjects as well. Her last test grade for math was much better than the previous, and she was able to explain her math concepts to me easily. We tweaked some steps in her method, but overall it was great. We talked about how to prepare for her science work due Thursday, and finished up her word game at the end of the session.

We specifically went over the student's review packet for his Final this week. The packet covered a range of topics (Matrix multiplication to applications of log functions). The student was able to understand the material well. I left him some advice on how to study for tests and Finals in the future. Overall, the session was excellent.

Differential Equations Tutoring review by Grace in Paramount, CA
We covered a packet of multiple choice questions today. She took a step back to think about the question through before starting it, and she did very well with them. The questions covered all topics that she learned through the semester. She was still very comfortable with the material even from the beginning of the year.
